One of our objectives as a Chair is to extend our research work to various communities around the Eastern Cape. We cannot change attitudes or encourage research uptake on gender and s*xualities when our work is not in conversation with the communities that surround us.

These past two weeks, Dr Banda, our researcher has been facilitating workshops as part of the GBVF Rapid Response Team. The workshops were hosted by the Office of the Premier in Eastern Cape Province to facilitate familiarisation with the National Strategic Plan (NSP) which was commissioned by President C Ramaphosa in 2018 during the GBVF summit.

And we spoke truth to power at the 2nd Edition of the Dr Phylis Ntantala and Prudence Mabele Joint Public Lecture!!!

Our Keynote speakers reminded us that:

"Power knows the truth, it is just busy trying to conceal it" - Sibongile Ndashe.

"Your silences will not protect you. Whether you speak you die, whether you don't speak, you die, so you might as well speak because you are going to die" - Stella Nyanzi

Let us continue to speak truth to power. As we do, it is also imperative that we interrogate in Prof zethu Matebeni's words:

"What is truth, who can speak truth, to what power? Because we have become accustomed to lies..that even the simplest of lies can perform the everydayness of truth..."

Here is a great opportunity.
