Undeterred by the load shedding on Friday evening our dads, special people and littles went ahead with their dads box construction and play evening. Our mums served up some lovely hotdogs for dinner and the evening was a wonderful time of bonding for our Pre-primary learners.
Week 1 of Term 3 is done! We are so proud of all our little bunnies for setting in so quickly.

As we head back to school this week, there is bound to be some nerves and some butterflies from our little humans, and even the bigger ones 💚
For any little ones who may struggle with separation anxiety as they come back to school after the holidays, here are three simple little tips from Dr Mary O'Kane which really are so effective:
Matching Love Hearts:
Draw a little heart on your wrist, and a matching one on theirs. If they are missing you during the day, or just feel the need to connect with you, they put their fingers on the little heart. They will feel their pulse, like a reassuring heartbeat, when they touch their wrist. Let them know that you will press your love heart if you are missing them. You can also add a spray of your perfume or aftershave to their wrist, as another little connection to you.
Pebble in my Pocket:
Find two very similar pebbles, gemstones or crystals. You keep one in your pocket and the child keeps the other in their pocket. Tell them that any time they feel a little nervous or are missing you they give their pebble a little squeeze. It is a very concrete reminder of their connection to you.
Worries in My Pocket:
Talk to your child about any worries they have about starting school. Write the worries down on pieces of paper. Then you put the pieces of paper in your pocket. Tell your child you are going to carry their worries for the day while they are in school, so they don’t have to carry them alone. This can really help to ease any fears they may have.
Your connection with your child is the most important support you can give.
2023 will also see Marcelle take on the role of head of the Pre-Primary sports programme at Northlands Pre-Primary. We look forward to her energy, her expertise and her special brand of Keet magic!
Marcelle Keet, the 2023 Technical Girls’ Director, is driven to make an impact in her new position for the SASHOC girls’ program!
She advocates for chasing your dreams with all your might and has achieved many of her own goals.
The two achievements she's most proud of are, achieving 148 caps for South Africa in 2 FIH World Cups, and being a proud mom to her 6-year-old Morgy.
Congratulations on your new role Marcelle Keet!
A very special farewell ceremony for our ladies retiring in the Pre-Primary - we said goodbye from a very special group of ladies, our general assistants, to Mrs Lynn Mason, Mrs Sharon Van der Heim and Mrs Rorke (who was unfortunately off ill) in the pre-primary playground yesterday. Thank you ladies for honouring our retiring staff with such a beautiful gesture of respect and affection.
Knowing who your teacher is and knowing who will be in your class next year, goes a long way to making the first day of school so much easier for our little people. They had a lovely morning getting to know their new space too! The Adventure Playground is always a huge hit 🌳
Welcome to our Faraway Tree. What enchanted land will you find at the top? 🌳
A different perspective of our beautiful Grade R Adventure Playground. Our new sensory garden is taking shape and the children are already making good use of it.
Northlands Pre-Primary School is very proud to announce that Mrs Lauren Clift will be taking over the reigns at Northlands Pre-Primary, when Mrs Lynn Mason enters her retirement in December, after 25 years at the helm.
Lauren is no stranger to NPPS, as she has been heading up Grade R for a period of time now. Lauren arrived at Northlands with a wealth of experience at Pre-Primary level from her years at Christopher Robin. She is a familiar face to many in the Durban North Community. We wish her many happy years with us and look forward to watching her boys thrive, as they begin their education journey with us too.
