BTHS PODCAST FOR THE WEEK

*TOPIC – SELF-LOVE*

Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others.

In this week’s podcast our Hattie hosts will share their opinions on Self-love. They will discuss ways we can take care of ourselves; emotionally, physically and mentally. They will share what makes them happy, not just momentarily but those things/moments that when you think of it when you are feeling down it gives you the same spark of joy or happiness, just like the day it happened...

BTHS 50TH ANNIVERSARY DANCE
As part of the 50th Anniversary Festival of our school, a Winter Ball was held in our School Hall on Friday, 26th of August 2022.
The event commenced at 19:30, where guests were welcomed with a delicious spread of cheese and wine in the foyer, accompanied by sultry music from a musical duet in the background. That had certainly added to the ambience in the foyer, wetting the appetite of our guests for what was still lying ahead for the rest of the evening.
After the guests were duly seated, the danced was opened by the principal, Mr Koopman, with a short speech to put everyone in a dancing mood. Two bottles of wine were won by two of the guests to be taken home (or shared with good company)! Our appreciation to Ms September for the generous prizes.
Many of our guests were current or previous parents of learners and also prior students attending the event. Two of our teachers and their guests, Ms Swarts and Ms Van Niekerk, were amongst the guests, showing off their skills on the dancefloor. The guests had also taken many pictures in the cute photo booth for memories of a lovely evening.
Our appreciation to everyone who had assisted in making this function a success.

HATTIE RUGBY: THE LAST DANCE
An overview by Mr Beukes

Saturday we played against Parow High School. This was a very special day, because it was the end of high school rugby for our Matric boys. As their head coach I backed a lot of our matric boys and gave them a 1VX start as they would never experience that feeling ever again.

I chose a team with majority matriculants and players who are not eligible for selection in 2023.

All the boys did well from U14 to U19
U14A won 38-0
U15A won 33-0
U16A won 12-0
U19B won 19-0
U19A won 30-8

WELL DONE BOYS!!!

BTHS EGD EXCURSION TO CPUT

We were invited to the Product and Industrial Design Department of CPUT this past Saturday, 27 August 2022. Sixteen of our girls had an awesome experience, they designed their own monograms which were laser cut into a cell phone stand for each girl. They also got the opportunity to make their own ceramic figure and had a walk through the creative facilities.

A heartfelt HATTIE THANK YOU to the team of CPUT who was so awesome to spend time with us; also for the transport and lunch packs! You are building our Hatties futures!

A big shout out to our Hattie teachers, Ms Christine Viljoen, Ms Swart and EGD assistant, Ms Francis for accompanying' our learners to CPUT and to Mrs Taljaardt for arranging this great opportunity for our Hatties!!

BTHS STEM CLUB

The BTHS STEM Club has been meeting every Friday for the last three weeks. Our STEM Club has four different branches, Science, Technology, Engineering and Coding. Each branch has their very own projects that they are researching and exploring. Today we decided to do a fun day and not do our usual projects. Learners could choose between six activities: Paper plane making, parachute making, straw tower construction, making a spectrometer, making a stethoscope and building a moving hand. Learners had so much fun and we are so excited that we get to do this with our future scientists.

HAMLET AT ARTSCAPE

Today 88 of our Grade 12 Hatties were fortunate enough to attend the Hamlet production at the Artscape theatre in Cape Town. The production is based on the Shakespeare play prescribed as part of their Grade 12 English Literature.

For many of our learners this was their first theatre experience. They thoroughly enjoyed this magnificent production and we hope it is the first of many to come.

Thank you to Mrs Van Jaarsveld, Mr Arendse, Ms Petersen and Ms Bruce for their assistance on the day.
