This is something I read and thought il share

This is too important not to share.

"Perhaps the reason teens isolate themselves when they're overwhelmed instead of coming to us with their problems, is because when they're toddlers we isolate them when they're overwhelmed instead of helping them with their problems.

When our kids are small and trying to manage emotions - they can't express what they are feeling. They throw tantrums, they throw things, they have meltdowns, they scream and they whine. This is their way of communicating with us. They need help to organize, process and express their feelings in a healthy way. And society tells us we should punish them for this. Send them to their room, put them in timeout, s***k them.

We teach them and train them not to show their emotions. Don't whine. Don't complain. Your feelings are wrong. Be quiet. Eventually they stop expressing their emotions to us because we told them over and over again we didn't want to hear it. For so long they needed to deal with it alone. Alone in their room, their chair, their corner.

And then they turn into teenagers and we expect them to feel safe talking to us. We expect them to know that NOW it's okay. They are subconsciously wired to think the opposite because this is what they grew up learning.

Give your child permission to feel. Let them know their feelings are valid and that you care, no matter how small. Make sure they know that they are heard.

Pretty soon meltdowns over crayons will turn into breakups, heartbreak, s*x, or even depression. You want your child to know that you will always hear them, no matter how small. You are their safe space." - Written by Laura Muhl

This is step in the right direction however thereโ€™s still no clarity on Land use, exorbitant fees and penalties.

STATEMENT BY THE MAYORAL COMMITTEE MEMBER FOR COMMUNITY SERVICES AND HEALTH, COUNCILLOR ZAHID BADROODIEN

One stop shop for ECD compliance and registration.

The Cityโ€™s Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department is moving online, meaning an easier process for ECDs on their journey to compliance and ultimately, registration.

Only 30% of centres in the City are registered, which leaves more than 2 000 unregistered.

Early childhood development is recognised as the foundation for success in future learning. Quality early learning programmes prepare children for adulthood, providing them with the necessary opportunities for social, cognitive, spiritual, physical and emotional development. These programmes assist in laying the foundation for holistic development, while cultivating a love for lifelong learning.

There are many challenges facing the ECD sector, notwithstanding the progress made in early childhood development since 1994. Children in South Africa still face significant challenges which include infrastructure, nutrition, ECD teachers, institutional capacity and funding.

The City of Cape Town will process ECD compliance applications online in future, making it easier for centres to comply with regulations.

The online tool that has been developed will see staff members uploading all of an applicantโ€™s information in a single visit to their local Social Development and Early Childhood Development office.

From there, the relevant inspections for fire safety and health compliance, as well as compliance with building regulations, will be coordinated. Applicants will be kept abreast of developments via SMS and email.

Finally we are given the green light to reopen our pre-primary.
We are so ready !!

Look how weโ€™ve marked our play area with shapes and markers to help children understand the physical distancing of 1m.

Their morning ring places are marked 1m apart.

Their tables are 1.2m long therefore they are far enough from one another.

They have their own toys and games so that they donโ€™t have to share.
Children 5 years and younger are not required to wear a face mask.
All 6 year olds must wear one.๐Ÿ˜ท

Parents please complete the survey and let us know if your child will be joining us.

The South African Paediatric Association says that they support the call for children to return to school. The psycho-social and cognitive benefits by far outweigh the risks.

Please share this s child friendly story with all children. Please share with as many people you know ๐Ÿ’ž

Vusi was too afraid to leave his house. He had heard the news about a little monster that was attacking people and making them sick. He didnโ€™t know what to do. His gogo stayed with him at the house and they watched the small television they had. Gogo kept watching the news. She said she needed to know what was happening outside their house, but she too was too afraid to leave their four walls. The news made Vusi feel funny in his tummy. It made him want to cry, but he knew he had to be strong for his gogo. They were all each other had. The television showed people standing all together. No one seemed to be afraid. Somehow Vusi knew that was worse. The people in charge of the news were talking about the monster, and how bad it was. They said that the most important person in South Africa, our president, said we must all stay indoors. If we didnโ€™t, the monster would almost definitely get you. The news people were saying that if we all get attacked by the monster, many of us would die. They said it was especially bad for old people. Vusi knew his gogo was old, and wouldnโ€™t let anything happen to her. He listened to what they had to say. He stayed indoors and washed his hands all the time. He helped his gogo wash her hands all the time. They cleaned the house and did lots of laundry. His gogo read him stories and they made soup and bread together. Vusi and his gogo stayed inside for weeks. It was scary, but in the end, it was some of the best times Vusi and his gogo had together. They loved each other so much, he would do anything for her. Even stay inside and listen to the people on the news. After what felt like a very long time, the monster left South Africa. Many people got sick and many people died. But Vusi and his gogo survived. They were told it was safe to leave their house. They stepped outside and felt the sun on their skin. They loved each other now more than ever, and were grateful to have their country back. Vusi did this for his gogo. We should all be like Vusi. #SALockdown #21DayLockdown
