A brief history

Wynberg is proud of its reputation as an icon of South African, if not world, schoolboy cricket. The History of a School (1961) by DH Thompson credits Mr Lloyd, a popular master at Wynberg during the 1880s, with establishing cricket as an institution. He used to hold lunchtime coaching sessions which would conclude with him having a knock against the schoolboys. Legend has it that

Saturday 21 September 24, 12h45: It's been 'whether/weather or not' the Day 1 tour matches for our U14A & U15A would get going in KZN & Eastern Cape today. The latest update is that the 14A will retreat from the rain to Hilton's Indoor Centre for practice this afternoon, and the 15A will try for a T20 from 14h00 this afternoon vs Selborne at the Grey High Festival ☔🌧️ ... 🌤️ Fingers crossed!

Thursday 29 August 24: Congrats to 's Luke Kleinsmith and Paul James on being selected for the 15-man SA Emerging U19 Squad to tour Zimbabwe from 15 to 30 September. Wynberg is hugely proud to be the only school nationally to have 2 players heading on this tour which forms part of the preparation for the SA U19 team’s road to the 2026 World Cup.

coaches Esmund van Wyk and Blake Rimmer have passed the halfway mark in their second joint Comrades Marathon! 2023 saw them both claim medals in the down run, likely the first time 2 WBHS teachers have completed the race on the same day - this year they both started in Wave D and will carry our School Flag proudly to the finish line!
