Aisha Zouheir, Grade 12, is this week's Monday Moment! Her peers describe her as a "kind, selfless soul" who always encourages, supports, and uplifts those around her.

Aisha is a library monitor and enjoys this responsibility. As an avid reader and someone who likes to interact with various people from different grades, she appreciates the space the library provides within the school. Aisha is also in touch with her artistic side. She takes art as a subject and finds it meaningful because it offers an escape for her. She has always had a passion for it and mentions that it is a "cool hobby too." Aisha goes out of her way to try to be kind to everyone she interacts with. She believes that people can make a difference if they show others a little bit of kindness. It may not always be a big difference, but it is a change.

Aisha's selflessness and willingness to be kind to others is inspirational. Perhaps, by learning to adopt some of her ideas, we can all make a difference in someone's day and learn to appreciate our interactions with other people.

We decided to take full advantage of the summery weather while we still can and rock our flip flops!

Staff were encouraged to donate R15 or more to this worthy cause.

Today we stood in solidarity as a school and a community to show our support for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.

The WGHS Feminist Society invited learners and staff members to wear black and orange as they gathered in the Honours Quad to form a human chain. A moment of silence was shared in honour of all the women and children who we have sadly lost due to GBV.

The fight against GBV is not over and everyone should feel empowered and obligated to stand up for the fight against this scourge of violence in our country.

For many Matrics nationwide it was their final NSC exam today!

Not only did our class of 2022 put down their pens but they took off their school shoes to participate in our traditional school shoe donation drive, which we have named the "Pass it on Project'!

Thank you to all of our matrics who donated their shoes to a very worthy cause.

The shoes will be donated to Beautiful Gate South Africa.

WGHS Veggie Garden - We proudly share with you the story behind our garden...

After thriving for over a year, we proudly share with you the story behind the Wynberg Girls' High School Veggie Garden!

In July 2021, amidst the pandemic and along with the help of Urban Harvest, we began installing WGHS's very own sustainable edible garden. The garden is intended to bring about hope and renewed energy and to continue to make sustainability a tangible and practical part of WGHS. It serves to educate and provide for those in need in the WGHS community. Our learners are involved in planting, maintaining, harvesting, and either donating or making use of produce from the garden.

We look forward to many years of reaping the rewards of our veggie garden!

Today we officially inducted the leaders of 2022/2023.

Staff, learners, and parents gathered together for the formal induction of the leaders of 2023 in the Honours Quad. It is a significant event in the lives of our young leaders as the seniors of the school. It was particularly special this year as we could, once again, have all learners present at this occasion.

The proceedings commenced with the incoming leaders, the outgoing leaders, and all learners sitting on the slopes of the Honours Quad, listening intently to an inspirational and thought-provoking speech from Dr Wallace about the lessons in leadership we can learn from the former First Lady, Michelle Obama. The school council members, hostel leaders, matric leaders and RCL were officially inducted into office and presented with their badges and a scroll to symbolise their position. The ceremony ended with some motivational words from our newly appointed Head of School, Lunabile Veto.

We wish our new leaders all the best in their new roles!

This week’s Monday Moment goes to Courtney Badenhorst.

From a young age, Courtney has always been in and out of the water, however, she started swimming competitively in 2018 when she swam in a level 2 regional competition in East London. There she succeeded in winning 5 medals, and her swimming journey truly began. Courtney says that her best swim season was in 2019. Swimming has taught Courtney to find the balance between her sport and school, and it has taught her many life lessons like discipline and perseverance.

At her last competition in July 2022, Courtney swam four personal best times. Courtney’s continuous hard work and dedication to swimming makes her a worthy Monday Moment. We wish Courtney all the best for her swimming career and her remaining few weeks of Grade 12.
