Aisha Zouheir, Grade 12, is this week's Monday Moment! Her peers describe her as a "kind, selfless soul" who always encourages, supports, and uplifts those around her.

Aisha is a library monitor and enjoys this responsibility. As an avid reader and someone who likes to interact with various people from different grades, she appreciates the space the library provides within the school. Aisha is also in touch with her artistic side. She takes art as a subject and finds it meaningful because it offers an escape for her. She has always had a passion for it and mentions that it is a "cool hobby too." Aisha goes out of her way to try to be kind to everyone she interacts with. She believes that people can make a difference if they show others a little bit of kindness. It may not always be a big difference, but it is a change.

Aisha's selflessness and willingness to be kind to others is inspirational. Perhaps, by learning to adopt some of her ideas, we can all make a difference in someone's day and learn to appreciate our interactions with other people.

We decided to take full advantage of the summery weather while we still can and rock our flip flops!

Staff were encouraged to donate R15 or more to this worthy cause.

This week’s Monday Moment goes to Courtney Badenhorst.

From a young age, Courtney has always been in and out of the water, however, she started swimming competitively in 2018 when she swam in a level 2 regional competition in East London. There she succeeded in winning 5 medals, and her swimming journey truly began. Courtney says that her best swim season was in 2019. Swimming has taught Courtney to find the balance between her sport and school, and it has taught her many life lessons like discipline and perseverance.

At her last competition in July 2022, Courtney swam four personal best times. Courtney’s continuous hard work and dedication to swimming makes her a worthy Monday Moment. We wish Courtney all the best for her swimming career and her remaining few weeks of Grade 12.

This week's Monday Moment is Abigail Correia, Grade 12.

Abigail, known as Abby to her peers, is a kind and creative individual, whose passion for serving others can be seen in her contributions to the Service Pillar and the Sports Pillar.

Abigail has always displayed a keen interest in service. This is shown through her involvement as a library monitor and as a hardworking member of the textbook team from as early as her Grade 9 year. Last year, Abigail became a computer monitor. Serving in the library is Abigail's most enjoyable after-school commitment, she believes that "a place with books and a serene atmosphere is where I find my happy place within the school." Abigail has also been consistent in her efforts in crocheting squares for the school's Wool for Wonders charity drive. As well as being a regular member of Esports, Abigail is also an avid squash player.

We appreciate Abigail's acts of service and wish her well during her final months at Wynberg Girls’ High School.

This week’s Monday Moment is Grade 11 learner, Juliette White.

Despite Juliette only joining Wynberg Girls’ High School in her Grade 10 year, she is deeply invested in the Cultural and Academic Pillars.

Within the Cultural Pillar Juliette is involved in the Art Committee, Dance Society, and Christian Union, these societies allow her to express herself at school. Outside school hours she sails and tap dances. Juliette is also involved in the Academic Pillar, she is currently an AS Levels English learner, and she has submitted her writing to English Alive, and last year she received a gold certificate in the Eisteddfod. She has also taken Visual Arts as an eighth subject. Even with an eighth subject, Juliette placed in the top 50 in her grade last term.

At first, Juliette found it very difficult and stressful to join a new school but a year later she is at home in the Wynberg community. Juliette is passionate about listening to others and standing up for injustices. She cares deeply for her peers and shows her compassion through seemingly small and quiet ways, making her peers feel seen, heard, and valued.
