Leliebloem House
Looking at these pictures brings back memories for me. I worked at Leliebloem house for a short period in the 80s. Mr Campbell was in charge, Dominic, the late Coleridge Daniels and his wife Christine, Miss Resant, Auntie Katie Aunty Vera, Mr Englebrecht, Hettie Coetzee and Sheree. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
We are celebrating everyday heroes! Every July 18, everyone is invited to mark Mandela Day by making a difference in our communities. To inspire you, we’ve spoken to 6 everyday heroes.

We speak to Fransisco from Leliebloem House Child & Youth Care Centre about how they make a difference each day.

As we celebrate super heroes with Marvel Mug Series in our stores, we understand that there are everyday heroes around us too. It’s the busy mom, the teacher who goes the extra mile, the firefighters who risk their lives, and the nurse who selflessly works on the frontline to ensure our health and safety. Join us as we give these everyday heroes a voice through our web series - “The Everyday Hero”

NSRI has seen the first group of students complete the 13 lesson Survival Swimming course and the Survival Swimming assessment for 2021. The assessment tests their ability to float, control their breathing, orientate themselves and, ultimately, stitch those skills together to self-rescue by moving through the water back to safety if they ever fell into the water unplanned.

The 8 Survival Swimming students from Leliebloem House Child & Youth Care Centre endured numerous challenges as a result of Covid-19 and the associated lockdown. Kim Abrahams, a Sea Rescue Drowning Prevention Instructor, says all the students showed commitment and enthusiasm during their lessons which led to them now being able to make safe choices around water, perform HandsOn CPR, safely rescue a peer and perform all the Survival Swimming skills needed to self-rescue.

The next group of students to do the assessment are scheduled to do so this week.

The various roles that make this team consists of child care workers, child care assistants, admin, social workers, programme coordinators (ADP, SBMP, Isibindi Grabouw), drivers, maintenance and FD. We are forever grateful for the commitment and dedication this team displays on the daily; ensuring that 60 children and their families; including the various schools and communities that we service have the best possible outcome. What a job!!!

We bid farewell to two colleagues George Strydom who has been a driver for the last 13 years and Cynthia Stylo who has been an assistant child care worker for 15 years and we celebrated 15 year Long Service award with Yvonne Gwasha. We handed over the Director's award to Richard September who was voted by the team for going beyond and above the call of duty.
So Proud of this Team. We Give Thanks.

On this #inspirationalWednesday "When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts."
Leliebloem House Education Campaign is of paramount importance as our learners have to firstly cope and readjust their mind sets as to where they find themselves; removed from family and everything they know. They are often in a deficit due to lack of basic fundamental principals such as literacy and numeracy and are further challenged with ADHD, Dyslexia and Foetal Alcohol Syndrome.
Our 60 learners attend 17 different schools. We are blessed to have 53 learners exempted from paying school fees for 2022. This is a god send which leave us with needing to secure funding for 7 learners... And then each individual child has a stationery list and school uniform requirements which we need to source. We welcome your support in any of the following ways... for more info on how you can assist please contact Carla or Ayanda on 021 6974947 or email [email protected]
