Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners

Early school closure and amended dates

Our State President spoke to the nation on Sunday evening followed by the Minister of Basic Education on Monday 28 June 2021 to give further direction on the President’s pronouncement regarding schooling. The following date changes are important:

• term 2 closing date for learners is 30 June and 2 July 2021 for
educators
• schools will re-open for the third term a week earlier than planned, on Monday 19 July 2021.


Please note the following school operations and activities in light of the announcements

• The assessment programme up to and including Wednesday, 30th June will continue as planned.
• Assessments that were planned beyond the 30th June will be written early in term 3 and will be communicated to parents and learners before the new term resumes
• Reports for all grades will be issued early in the new term

I urge our parents, educators and learners to practice and follow the necessary health and safety protocols. That is to wear your mask, sanitise your hands frequently and avoid social gatherings where possible. As a school community we will reap the rewards when we work together to prevent or combat the spread of Covid-19.

The Western Cape Education Department is initiating a drive to create employment for the unemployed youth who have an interest in education sector and in the community in which they reside.
Duties/ tasks
Among other things, General School Assistants will be required to render services amongst others as IT Support Workers, General Maintenance Workers (infrastructure maintenance), Care and Support Workers, Administrative Support Workers. Help school management team in maintaining of a safe, secure and clean school, classroom and administrative environment.
Requirements
With or without an NQF 4 qualification (matric) or Year 4 Schools of Skills qualifications or higher qualifications. Candidate must have good organisational skills; flexibility and creativity; enjoy working with children and young adults; patience, confidence and a compassionate attitude; good literacy and numeracy skills; ability to manage groups of learners and deal with challenging behaviour and ability to communicate in English and one other official language.
Remuneration
The stipend paid to assistants will be R3 500 per month before the 1% deduction for UIF (R35).
Closing date
The closing date is 16 November 2020, and it is envisaged that the successful candidates will begin at schools on 1 December 2020.

OAKLANDS HIGH SCHOOL is offering temporary Education Assistant positions to the unemployed youth of the Province, up to the age of 35 years old from 1 December 2020 until 31 March 2021.

Among other things, Education Assistants will be required to prepare the classroom for teaching and learning and ensure that teaching materials are available and ready for use. Hand out workbooks/ textbooks to learners. Preparing mark sheets, keeping of records, capturing of marks. Distribute question papers, worksheets, classwork books, marked scripts to learners. Assist the teacher with photocopying of question papers, work sheets etc. Support the teacher to manage behaviour in the classroom. Help learners with their educational and social development; maintain a safe, secure and clean classroom environment; oversee learners out of the classroom and during lunch breaks; supervise group activities of learners and carry out administrative tasks as required by the school.
Requirements
Candidates must be qualified unemployed graduates (NQF6/7 or higher) or have an NQF level 4 (Matric) qualification.
Good organisational skills; flexibility and creativity; basic IT skills; enjoy working with children and young adults; patience, confidence and a compassionate attitude; good literacy and numeracy skills; ability to manage groups of learners and deal with challenging behaviour and ability to communicate in English and one other official language.
Applicants may not be studying currently, employed or in training.

Re: Covid-19

We would like to inform you that an educator at our school has been identified as positive for the Covid-19 virus. The school has since made contact with the School Governing Body and the Western Cape Education Department.
The educator was absent for 10 days from school when tested positive. The educator who tested positive did not have close contact with any learners. The school has taken the necessary action of decontamination on Tuesday, 30 June 2020. The school
maintains strict safety protocols as stipulated by covid-19 regulations.
Parents, be assured that the safety of all staff and learners are of the highest priority and we ensure the school is safe, clean and regularly sanitised. Parents were therefore informed to send their children to school on Wednesday 1 July 2020.
Please stay safe, observe social distancing and wear your mask.
