πŸŒπŸš£β€β™‚οΈ WORLD CHAMPS BECKON FOR CAMPS BAY HIGH'S ELITE PADDLERS
Two young paddlers from Camps Bay High School, Ryley Smith and Jared Shrimpton, both in Grade 11 and residing in Hout Bay, are continuing to make waves in the world of canoe marathon racing, building on a string of impressive achievements with yet another standout performance - this time at the SA Marathon Championships held recently in Upington, Northern Cape.

πŸ… Ryley delivered a dominant set of results:
πŸ₯‡ Gold in the K2 (Doubles) with his partner Keagan Vogt from Maritzburg College
πŸ₯ˆ Silver in the Short Course after a thrilling race to the finish line
5️⃣ A well-fought fifth place in the K1 (Singles) following a tightly contested and highly tactical race

πŸ₯‰ Jared also impressed, earning:
πŸ₯‰ Bronze in the K2 (Doubles) with Sam Mocke from Fish Hoek High School
πŸ₯‰ Bronze in the K1 (Singles) β€” demonstrating strength, endurance, and consistency across both team and solo events

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Their performances at the national championships have once again earned them selection for the South African Junior Men’s Team to compete at the 2025 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships in GyΕ‘r, Hungary β€” a remarkable achievement and a clear reflection of their place among the country’s elite young paddlers.

🚀 Ryley, together with his K2 partner Keagan, will represent South Africa in the Long Course K2, while both Ryley and Jared have been selected to race in the Short Course event β€” a high-intensity, tactical format where milliseconds can decide the podium.

🌟 In further exciting news, Ryley has also been selected to represent South Africa at the 2025 Olympic Hopes Canoe Sprint, which will be held in Racice, Czech Republic πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ώ. This selection recognises his versatility across both the marathon and sprint disciplines and is yet another testament to his exceptional ability and dedication to the sport.

πŸ“£ Ms Busi Ngcwama, Head of Sport at Camps Bay High School, shared her pride: β€œWe are incredibly proud of Ryley and Jared. Being named to the national team is one of the highest honours in South African paddling, signifying not only athletic excellence, but also the ability to compete and thrive under international pressure. It places Ryley and Jared among a small group of athletes chosen to represent the nation on the world stage, where the competition is fierce and the standard, world-class. To see two of our learners earn this honour again is extraordinary. Their success shows what’s possible when talent meets hard work, and they continue to be inspiring role models in our school community. We’ll be cheering them on all the way to Hungary.”

⚽ GIRLS SOCCER TERM 2 WRAP-UP
Growth. Grit. Goals (and even a goalless draw)! πŸ’ͺ

It’s been a big term for Girls Soccer at Camps Bay High, with both our First Team and U15s showing resilience, determination, and real team spirit.

πŸ”₯ First Team:
Our players faced strong opposition including Fairmont, DSK and Bergvliet - but kept their heads high and played with heart. A proud highlight was a hard-fought goalless draw at home against Marist Brothers Linmeyer, showing just how far the team has come. Sienna Benthien deserves recognition for her relentless effort in the DSK match.

⚑ U15 Team:
The U15s had a standout term, kicking off their first win (1–0 vs Fairmont with a brilliant goal from Gabriella Rael) and ending with a spectacular 7–0 Derby Day victory over Bergvliet! Alondwe Mandara netted a hat-trick, Jody Kensley added two, and Gabriella and Chloe Hudson rounded off the scoring.

πŸ’« Other memorable performances included:
πŸ”Ή Phoebe Goliath & Harlee Levitt – calmly rotating in goals under pressure
πŸ”Ή Chloe Hudson – solid leadership and key defensive moments
πŸ”Ή Jody Kensley – reliable across the pitch
πŸ”Ή Thato Mvandaba – non-stop work down the wing

πŸ‘ Girls Soccer at CBHS is building momentum - and we can’t wait to see what Term 3 brings!
