Acornhoek Physics Summer School

Acornhoek Physics Summer School is a program aimed at accelerating the interest in science to young people which run between December and January holidays.

Subjects/Courses taught at the Summer School are Physical Science, Mathematics, Astronomy and Computer Science.

Our students continue to shine. This year we had our new group of students from our class of 2019 who started their tertiary studies. One of the students is Sam Mohlala who started his first year at the University of the Western Cape. His Plan is to became an Astronomer. He's also part of new trainees to teach Astronomy.

This year we celebrate 5 years Anniversary of the Summer School since we started in 2016 to help Acornhoek students improve in Physics and Maths. It has grown not only as a school but as home for many young people. Since then over 66 students have benefited from the program.

Acornhoek Physics Summer School

Acornhoek Physics Summer School is a school aimed at current grade 11 students that runs for 3 weeks during December and January holidays, with the focus being grade 12 Physics, Maths, and Astronomy hosted at Magwagwaza High School in Acornhoek.

The summer school was started by Mr Sibusiso Mdhluli, with the help of a friend Mr Shephard Mpulwane in 2016 to help Acornhoek students improve their performance in Maths and Science after they noticed the poor performance of the local students in this subjects due to lack of resources and role models.

The summer school also provide students with career guidance and mentorship to the students. To participate in the summer school one need to be currently in Grade 11 and from Acornhoek. The applications open in September every year.

The summer school provide breakfast and lunch to all the students who attend based on the availability of funds.
