Hoping our team members are staying safe but active during current situation. We miss all of you and share the disappointment many of you feel having your respective spring sports season shortened. Want to remind you regardless of how you are spending time away from school this is a great time to continue working on your fundamentals including your form shooting and ball handling. A sad ending to a tough and challenging season. Proud of the fight we showed coming back from 13 down at half but our comeback fell a little short tonight at Clinton. Some notes and highlights from this season:

We began the season by welcoming 6 new players to our program including 4 freshman.

The season started rocky as we started the season without our lone senior and floor leader Karsen Cheek.

We began the season by losing 6 of our first 9 games against a very challenging non conference schedule.

As we continued to gel and improve the injury bug started to take its toll. We began the season with 2 key members of our team injured and unable to play. Shortly after the season began we lost a promising forward to a knee injury. The season started to turn after a home win vs Walhalla we then won the Pickens High School holiday tournament. Unfortunately during that tournament we lost another forward to a season ending knee injury. After Christmas we finished 2nd in the Laurens Christmas tournament. We continued fighting injuries losing players to nagging injuries as we started conference play. In total we lost over 90 games played due to injuries. We called upon 3 of our C Team members to join our team in order to have a full squad to practice We were forced to play players out of position but we continued to fight and scrap our way to a 2nd place finish and 1st round playoff home game vs Chesnee.

As we look to the future there numerous reasons to be optimistic about next year.

We expect our 3 injured players to return and be ready to make contributions to our depleted front court.

Including our injured players we return 14 players who finished the season on our team this year. We return experience and talent at every position.

Our conference next year will be challenging as Libert Powdersville and Crescent leave and we welcome Daniel,Wren and BHP to our league that will still havePendleton ,Seneca, and West Oak.

The two things we need in order to reach our goals next year: Is to have an active summer program with maximum participation so we can as a team work on those things we can improve on before the season starts. We are hoping also to have JV team in place next year which would help our program greatly.

Sadly tonight we say goodbye to a 4 year player our only Senior Karsen Cheek. Karsen fought nagging injuries this season but for the 2nd year in a row was voted an all region player. Karsen will be missed for her great personality her grit and her fighting spirit.

A personal note I’m very fortunate to be part of the Bulldog family and to work for one of the best basketball coaches this state has to offer. His talent and drive were on display this year with all the injuries and youth we had we continued to improve under his leadership.

Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this group. The road starts in June hope to see the gym full

Go Lady Bulldogs !!!!

Lady Bulldogs on Senior Day

12/02/2020

A personal note: my apologies for the technical I received tonight vs Seneca. We strive to teach our players discipline and how to deal with bad calls by the referees. However I didn’t show that same discipline tonight and received a technical foul which hurt our team. I’ve apologized to Coach Wood and will address with our team soon.

Now on to the playoffs !
