More than 5 decades long relentless work of Father Paul Zahler, for the total development and social integration of children with special needs is an inspiring story not only for special educators but also for human rights activists anywhere in the world. It is a legacy to be cherished and sustained for future. Though he did, his path breaking work based on Shawnee Oklahoma, his developmental programme went beyond borders and changed lives of thousands of children with special needs in India, Mexico, Africa and elsewhere apart from U.S.A.

His concept 'Experiential Quotient' brought about a paradigm shift in special education and led to an accessible success model. Long before globalisation became a buzzword, he became a votary of it, proving a best practice can travel far and become an agent of change.

At a time, special educators were groping in the dark still following the Three 'R's (reading, writing and arithmetic) system to educate the intellectually challenged Father Paul’s path breaking approach indeed created a revolution. It took his incisive mind to see that strengthening functional abilities is the most effective way. He structured a programme in ‘experiential learning’ making use of sensory inputs from nature. Along with a team of special educators, he went around the globe interacting with professionals. It is during one such journey i met him first in Trivandrum, South India. I was a media person chasing a developmental story; he was conducting a training programme for teachers, parents, and students and I vividly remember how his versatile mind, cheerful nature and infectious enthusiasm left a lasting impact on me. I came back as a person committed to the cause of children with special needs. Since then I have been meeting him whenever he is in India.

I regularly following his work always looking for an opportunity to associate with his continuing efforts to spread love. May I take this opportunity to request everyone to support father Paul’s programme in whichever way you can.

Our mission is to save and improve the quality of life of children and adults with Develpmental disa Some of our programs include:

Home Integration Child Development Center: A daily program serving children ages birth to 18 years of age.

This program offers many therapies such as horseback riding, swimming, music, and art. Camp Benedictine: A monthly overnight camp experience for persons with disabilities ages 8 to 80. This program offers the same therapies as the child development center in a safe and fun environment. NIDD Equestrian Therapy Program at Statham Stables: This program provides an individualized one-on-one experience

This year, in the Spirit of the Season, please consider making a donation to Fr. Paul Zahler’s Home Integration at www.NIDD.US for The National Institute On Developmental Delays Camp Benedictine Project!
After St. Gregory’s University closed their doors, this non denominational camp, which has served our special needs community, for over 50 years, lost its program home. Thankfully they have secured land near Wes Watkins Lake, to create a new Camp venue. Construction is needed to create at camp site which is assessable and houses all of their programs. There is a waiting list of families who are very desperate for this life enhancing camp to begin again. Known as one of the most comprehensive camps, serving special needs children and adults in our area, you can help this project move forward. They need just over $1 million dollars to complete this project. Please make either a one-time tax deductible donation, or consider a monthly donation, to help Camp Benedictine open their doors sooner than later!

Camp Benedictine is one of Oklahoma’s most comprehensive camps serving individuals with special needs. After moving off of the St. Gregory’s campus, when they sold, Camp Benedictine, as well as the other programs of Home Integration, with The National Institute On Developmental Delays, lost their home. There are plans for a future campus housing all of Home Integration’s programs once again. But Camp Benedictine CANNOT WAIT! We have land and now we need funds to start building!
We need your help!

Something helpful to keep on hand...

A friend of mine shared this and I thought it was helpful to have, incase you ever need it!

HOW TO FIGHT COVID AT HOME
No one ever talks about how to fight Covid at home. I came down with Covid in November. I went to the hospital, running a fever of 103, a rapid heart beat, and other common symptoms that come with Covid. While I was there they treated me for the high fever, dehydration and pneumonia.
The doctor sent me home to fight Covid with two prescriptions - Azithromycin 250mg & Dexamethason 6mg. When the nurse came in to discharge me, I asked her, "What can I do to help fight this at home?" She said, “Sleep on your stomach at all times with Covid. If you can’t sleep on your stomach because of heath issues sleep on your side. Do not lay on your back no matter what because it smashes your lungs and that will allow fluid to set in.
Set your clock every two hours while sleeping on your stomach, then get out of bed and walk for 15-30 min, no matter how tired or weak that you are. Also move your arms around frequently, it helps to open your lungs. Breathe in thru your nose, and out thru your mouth. This will help build up your lungs, plus help get rid of the Pneumonia or other fluid you may have.
When sitting in a recliner, sit up straight - do not lay back in the recliner, again this will smash your lungs. While watching TV - get up and walk during every commercial.
Eat at least 1 - 2 eggs a day, plus bananas, avocado and asparagus. These are good for Potassium. Drink Pedialyte, Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero & Water with Electrolytes to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. Do not drink anything cold - have it at room temperature or warm it up. Water with lemon, and little honey, peppermint tea, apple cider are good suggestions for getting in fluids. No milk products, or pork. Vitamin’s D3, C, B, Zinc, Probiotic One-Day are good ideas. Tylenol for fever. Mucinex, or Mucinex DM for drainage, plus helps the cough. Pepcid helps for cramps in your legs. One baby aspirin everyday can help prevent getting a blood clot, which can occur from low activity. "
Drink a smoothie of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, honey, tea and a spoon or two of peanut butter.
We always hear of how Covid takes lives, but there isn't a lot of information out there regarding how to fight Covid. I hope this helps you or someone you know, just as it has helped me.
Please feel free to share!

The world needs exactly who you are 💕

The older I get, the more I realize how much time I spent believing the lie that who I was wasn’t good enough. I find myself fighting to get all of that time back—all of the moments I wasted hiding who I was by trying to be something I wasn’t.

So as I sit here now, with years of living and learning behind me, I want so badly to go back in time to that little girl—a little girl who happens to be half Korean and shy and a little bit self-conscious—to tell her that not only is she good enough, but she is extraordinary. I want to go back and tell her to be kind to herself because the world needs exactly who she was made to be.

And believe me when I say that the same is true for you. I hope you find the courage to embrace all that you are—all of your quirks, all of your beauty, all of your brilliance—because the world needs who YOU.

The World Needs Who You Were Made To Be is now available wherever books are sold and at magno.li/whoyouweremadetobe ✨
