ECA Literacy Council is a volunteer board that assists literacy programs through fundraising and recruiting and training volunteer tutors.

The East Central Area Literacy Council is a not-for-profit fundraising organization which supports adult education and literacy programs. We also recruit and train volunteers to support the free adult education classes at various locations and times to help students get ready for college, a new career or improve basic skills. The ECC Adult Education and Literacy program will be closed for Winter Break from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1. Classes will resume on Jan. 6. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

Register now for free and help us prepare to help our community!

Booth Registration includes table and 2 chairs.
Setup begins at 11:00 AM. No early teardown, please.
Lunch will be provided from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
Register for space by March 11, 2025
Private interview rooms will be available.

We are looking for English Language Tutors for our Rolla morning class that meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and our Union evening class that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Volunteer - East Central Area Literacy Council 19/11/2024

Volunteer English Tutors Needed!
The East Central Area Literacy Council in partnership with East Central College is seeking individuals interested in serving as classroom assistants and/or tutors for English language acquisition classes offered in Rolla and Union.

No special academic degrees are required to be a tutor. East Central Area Literacy Council volunteer tutors must:

1. Complete New Tutor Training through the East Central Area Literacy Council.
2. Be 18 years of age or older.
3. Be willing to undergo a criminal background check through the Missouri Automated Criminal History Site.

Classroom assistants support the work of the instructor by handing out course materials, monitoring student progress, and assisting with technology.

Tutors work one-on-one with individuals or small groups who desire to acquire English language skills or prepare to take the test to earn citizenship. English language tutors need to be fluent in English and sensitive to cultural differences.

We have 2 class options, the morning class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and the evening class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The amount of hours you will work is flexible.

Volunteer Council Members Needed!

We are looking for dedicated individuals to volunteer for our county councils. Montgomery, Gasconade, Franklin, Crawford, and Phelps counties in Missouri. Our council members attend meetings once a month via zoom and are tasked with assisting in student outreach, volunteer recruitment, and annual fundraising. This may include distributing flyers in local communities, hosting tables at local events, speaking at local events, planning and implementing fundraising events, or asking for donations from area businesses or individuals. We are looking for volunteers that can help with some activities and work with the committee members to help accomplish them all.

Our goal is to support our Adult Education and Literacy program which provides free classes for High school equivalency and English as a second language.
