ALL PROCEEDS GO TO LHS

The History of Wampus Cat Basketball is available now for direct purchase from Claitor's Books in Baton Rouge or on Amazon. Former LHS Principal Billy Crawford and I created this as a tribute to the many great teams and players at LHS through the decades. The book covers just about every discoverable basketball fact about LHS and is loaded with great pictures and stories.

There is a special section in the book dedicated to the rich history of Leesville High School where military, scientific, and other distinguished alumni are highlighted. Also included a quick review of other great sport teams at LHS, including baseball, softball, track and some others.

All proceeds from these books go to LHS Basketball.

HOOPER TROPHY BOOK --- UPDATED --- ALL PROCEEDS GO TO LHS AND DHS. GET YOURS TODAY!

Friends: The book on the rivalry between Leesville and DeRidder has been updated and is for sale now on Amazon or directly from Claitor’s Books in Baton Rouge. Get yours today so you’ll have time to read up before the big game in in two weeks (Oct 18 in Leesville).

In 2021, DHS graduate Samuel Staples Lewis and I pieced together the history of the Trophy and chronicled the 114-year rivalry between the Dragons and Wampus Cats. The story of HOW the Hooper Trophy came to be and how each game turned out are in the pages of this book. Buck and Anges Hooper---a wonderful and benevolent couple with split loyalties---donated the trophy in 1962 and it has gone back and forth with each winning team. The rivalry began in 1910, so the rivalry is even older than the Trophy. Results from each game are included, as are a litany of amazing pictures.

All profits from the sale of the books are split between Leesville High School and DeRider High School. The update is essentially the reports from the last 3 games between the schools and overall status of the rivalry.

So very proud of this Wampus Cat. LHS'S OWN Julio Toro, Class of 1974 was recently named a member of the Hall of Distinguished Educators at Northwestern State University. Mr. Toro is a fine man, and was a great teacher and administrator for two careers---one in Louisiana and one in Texas! SO PROUD OF MR. TORO

The alumni association met with several class reps on September 5 to discuss and plan for Homecoming 2024--October 25 and 26. Present were board members BJ Green, Susie Neubert, Gene LaCaze, Angie Magee, President Ray Ortiz, Cindy Jeane; 1974 class rep Devon Bennett; board member Lisa Franklin; James Armes and Robbie Endris, representing the class of 1969, who are having their 55th-year reunion; and Jackie Self, class rep, 1964.

We encourage all Wampus Cat alumni to join us for board-sponsored activities. These are not for just the classes that end in "4."

Wampus Cat Nation grieves on this day.

One of the genuinely nicest people to have walked the halls of the Ole School of the Hill passed away over the weekend. Class of 1979s Jerry Jeane left this earth for a certain reward in Heaven on Sunday, August 25.

Many in Leesville knew Jerry as a successful businessman. Many others knew him as a good husband and father, brother and son. Many on this page know him as a schoolmate and loyal alum of our beloved school.

Jerry was a good man, in every sense of the word. He will be missed. He was a kind man and his presence amongst us will be missed. Tears from many of us in the days ahead. I am thankful to have known him and cherish the notion that he was my friend.

Please keep his family in your prayers.

Hi, Wampus Cat alumni:

The executive board met on August 15. Because of very poor attendance the past few years at the alumni dance, the board voted to suspend the dance for 2024. A tailgate event has been added. This will take place at the end of the parade, around 4:00 until 5:30, at Dogwood Park (entrance on Belview Road) behind LHS. Water and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

We hope you are getting excited about Homecoming 2024 and planning to join us for the alumni events. These are not for just the honored classes. All alumni are invited and encouraged to attend.
