❄️ As we approach this time of year, it is important for us to stay updated with the weather conditions. According to the current forecast, we can expect approximately 2cm of snow on Sunday.

❄️ We anticipate that this should not affect the normal operation of the school on Monday. However, in the unlikely event of severe weather disrupting the school opening, we will notify you through ParentMail. It is crucial that you have updated your contact details on ParentMail to ensure you receive any important updates. We kindly request that you refrain from calling the school, as the phone lines need to be available for staff to communicate effectively.

❄️ If we do experience a light covering of snow, we will allow children to play outside only if they are adequately dressed. This includes suitable footwear, coats, gloves, and other warm clothing. We kindly ask that you ensure your children are appropriately dressed for the cold weather.

💙 Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

❤️💛💚 The biggest thank you ever must go to the Dream Team who have once again helped to weave memories that will last a lifetime for our biggest humans, enduring sleepless nights & time away from their own families to make the magic happen. 💚💛❤️

We could not be more thankful, nor could we love them any more.
Huge thank you Mr F, Miss T & Mrs W ❤️

Now it’s time for them to get home, grab a cuppa & a bath!

More London spam…

Our Y6s have had the absolute best time in London on their residential.
They’ve packed so much in and walked for miles to. They even managed a little bit of sleep!
Here’s just a snippet of what they’ve been up to!

So much for the going to sleep suggestion…

This could be a long journey! 🙄

When bellies are rumbling and McDonalds is calling, there’s only one thing to do..

May not be the healthiest breakfast that the children have ever had. Probably one of the most enjoyable though!

🐻 We are delighted to share that we raised £248.55 in support of Children in Need on Friday!

❤️ What a wonderfully generous community we are part of!

🎨🖌️ It's time to dig out the glitter, grab the glue and unbox the felt-tipped pens!

❤️ Reverend Jo will be hosting her annual Christmas Tree Festival at St. Bartholomew's Church over the weekend starting Friday 1st December.

🎄 Each year, the children at Mary Swanwick help to create items for a tree to show at the event.

🖍️ Children are invited to create their own
decoration at home this year. There is no theme, we just ask that a kind message is written somewhere on the decoration so that visitors can read and enjoy our display.

❄️ Please send decorations in to school no later than Wednesday 29th November. Thank you!

👩🏾‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳 We are delighted to have invested in a set of table top stoves to enable us to deliver a broad Design Technology cooking curriculum.

🍴🥘 We are seeking donations of:
* Large saucepans / woks
* Wooden or silicone spoons / spatulas

❤️ If you have any items spare that you are willing to donate, please pop them in to the office, thank you!

🚀 We have had a blast!

What a wonderful Old Whittington Community Event, we LOVE our wonderful community!

HUGE thanks to:
❤️ Wendy, Marie and the team at Chesterfield Borough Council for pulling together this brilliant event: Lucy, Nicole, Chloe, Sarah, Tina - from DCC & CBC!
🤹🏻‍♂️ The team from Joker Entertainments,

✨ It’s ‘Old-Whittington-Community-Event Eve’. ✨
✅ Yep, we squished that all together with hyphens to make it a thing.

🤪 We are SUPER EXCITED about tomorrow’s shindig and we are super-excited to have lots of children and grown ups down to attend.

⏰ It all kicks off straight from school and runs until 5.30pm - guests are welcome to come and go as they wish.

❤️ Our new friends, Wendy and Marie from Chesterfield Borough Council have pulled it all together and will be on hand to run the activities. They are hoping to ascertain your views about what’s going well in our local community, and what you would like to see improved.

⚠️ Most of the activities are due to take place in the SPORTS HALL - we are expecting it to be quite busy straight from school so if your child can get over-stimulated by noise or senses, it may be worth holding back a little for queues to drop down, or calling back a little later in the afternoon. Where possible, we will try to spread activities out a little.

🧁 Jacket potatoes, loaded with chilli, veggie chilli, beans, cheese & salad plus puddings will be available for all guests in the lunch hall - you can grab and go or find a perch and enjoy your tea completely cooked & washed up on us!

🦢 We are really looking forward to welcoming you all!

Huge thanks to our friends at NOS for this all you need to know about Smart TVs guide for parents and carers.

It covers everything from location services to age-appropriate content, child profiles to security.

Check it out!

⚠️ Random request alert! ⚠️

We need:
🟢 Green
⭐️ Gold
…nail varnish for one of our Christmas craft activities.

💅 If you have any left-over pots that you no longer need, please pop them in to the school office!

👏🏻 Thank you!

❤️ This week we are also celebrating Inter-Faith Week.

We kicked things off today with a whole-school assembly.
We thought about what an exciting learning opportunity this week presented us with - because we have the chance to learn about different faiths, cultures and people from around the world.

Did you know…
✝️ Over 30% of the people in the world are Christian,
🕌 24% often world are Muslim,
❌ 16% of the world are not religious,
🕉️ 15% are Hindu,
☸️ Almost 7% are Buddhist,
❤️ Over 5.5% of the world adhere to folk religions,
💚 And around 1% of the population are Jewish, or study another religion?

🌎 What a wonderfully diverse world we live in!

Mrs Parr left children with the question: ‘What will you know this time next week that you don’t know now?’

👀 Keep your peepers pealed on Seesaw and Facebooks for updates from the week!

We are really looking forward to sharing our learning with you next week:
🧡 Parents of children in the Early Years - Wednesday 22nd November at 9am
💛 Parents of children in Key Stage 1 - Tuesday 21st November at 3pm
💚 Parents of children in lower Key Stage 2 - Monday 20th November at 2.45pm
💙 Parents of children in Y5&6 (that are not attending the London residential) - Thursday 23rd November at 2.45pm

💙 This week we are celebrating Anti-Bullying Week, or Friendship Week as we’d prefer to refer to it as! 💙

🧦 Today, we kicked things off with a celebration of our differences by wearing ODD SOCKS! In assembly, Mrs Parr talked about the ways in which we can hurt others’ feelings and the long-lasting impact hurtful words and actions can have.

Mrs James, who champions our Friendship Ambassadors took the reins to explain that the theme for this year's Anti-Bullying Week is 'Make a Noise About Bullying', so we talked about the importance of speaking up if we know someone else is being bullied, as well as telling someone if we feel we aren't being treated well by others.

Throughout the week, children will be taking part in lots of activities to focus on friendship, looking after others and what to do if we do experience bullying. Children will spend some time reflecting on what bullying is and what it isn’t. It’s really important that children understand that bullying is something that happens SEVERAL TIMES ON PURPOSE - and that falling out is not the same as bullying. Please take some time to listen to your children this week when they tell you about what they have learnt. Keep your eyes out over the next few weeks as our Friendship Ambassadors will be pulling together some handy guides for children and grown-ups.

👀 Keep your eyes out for our work on class Seesaw pages!

…And we will be marking the event with fun, learning and fundraising for this wonderful cause!

👖 Children are invited to wear their own clothes this Friday and we kindly ask for a donation of £1, if you are able to donate.
😁 Dress spotty - or in something that makes you happy!

🍪 On Friday we will be selling spotty biscuits at break time for 20p (gluten & dairy-free biscuits will be available!)

👏🏻 HUGE THANKS to Mrs Beighton for donating this fabulous big Pudsey teddy!
🧸 He can be yours!
🎟️ Raffle tickets will be available on the playground before school all week from tomorrow - 50p a strip!
💛 We will draw the winner in assembly on Friday!

💛 All funds will go towards Children in Need.

🧦 Your Sunday afternoon reminder that next week is Anti-bullying / Friendship Week!
💙 We will be marking it by celebrating our differences tomorrow - children are invited to wear ODD SOCKS for the day (no donation needed!)

❤️ We are looking forward to seeing our LEARNERS in their funkiest non-pair!

🧡🪔✨ Our children in the Early Years would like to wish you a HAPPY DIWALI! ✨🪔🧡

Last week they learned about the Hindu and Sikh festival of lights - Diwali.
Miss Bala visited our children in Nursery, to teach them the Diwali story and helped them to create a beautiful rangoli! 🌟
Our children in Reception used clay to sculpt their own Diva lamps. 🪔

🎆 Take a look at some of their lovely work! 🎆

🎨 In Art Club this week, children used the British artist and designer Yinka Ilori for inspiration to create their own acrylic canvases - focusing specifically on pattern and colour. We’re already looking forward to diving in to even more creativity next week! 🎨

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

🌺 Today and tomorrow , you can catch Reverend Jo at the Cenotaph at the bottom of Church Street just before 11 today and 12 tomorrow, in order to pay respects to serving and past service men and women.

💫🙌🏻❤️ Yesterday’s celebration assembly was yet another corker; we could not think of a better finale to a week of fun & learning! ❤️🙌🏻💫

🏆 We always end on a high by hip-hip-hooraying our LEARNERS of the week in from if they’re proud-as-punch-parents. And what a fine line up we had last week: learners recognised for their hard work, resilience, determination and kindness.

🥉🥈🥇 We were delighted to hand out bands in BRONZE, SILVER & GOLD to those learners & grown-ups that have securely made the steps to the next level in our LEARNERS code. We are so proud of you all, and how hard our aspirating leaders are showing their steely determination to improve.

As always, we were thrillled to celebrate some rewards from out side of school!:

🏊🏻‍♀️ A gaggle of great swimmings flaunted their skills and great number of certificates and badges - including one very special in-school swimming certificate for a young lady who has blown teachers away with her outstanding resilience and determination,
🦸🏼‍♀️ A superhero who helped to raise money for Ashgate Hospice with a special walk and
🏅 A mini athlete who was awarded a special medal for participation in a race!

🙌🏻 Huge applause must be give to our amazing learners who engaged with their learning apps - 🤖Numbots, 🎸Rockstars, 🔡doodle & 🐝spelling shed - and for being on their top Form last week!

Roll on Friday already - we can’t wait to celebrate even more brilliance!
