Our inequitable schools can't change in time for our kids. If it was going to happen soon, it would be happening right now, and it's not. — Rise Up for Students For me and my family, we are not turning back to old ways that weren’t working. Even if it’s familiar and simple and alluring. I want my children’s life and education to be more than a repeat of their parents’ old school wounds. Now is the time to be bold, to make decisions based in faith an...

What am I supposed to do with my kids this fall? — Rise Up for Students By Matt Halvorson It’s been hard to find the right words during this pandemic. But...

Dave Dravecky was a lefty pitcher for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants in the 1980s, and he lost his pitching arm to cancer at the height of his career. On this date in 1989, Dravecky broke the humerus bone in his left arm while throwing a pitch. It was his last game in the big leagues. Less than two years later, his left arm and shoulder had been amputated. Can you imagine? This song is about that... trying to imagine surviving the loss of that which had defined you.
This one features the incomparable Kelly Erb on the fiddle and Taylor McCarrey on lead guitar, plus Kenneth Maldonado on drums and Andre Calderon on bass. Stay tuned for a longer essay about Dravecky still to come...

The subtle racism of Seattle's 'trusted institutions' continues to impact our kids
The subtle racism of Seattle's 'trusted institutions' continues to impact our kids — Rise Up for Students The increase in physical violence against Asian Americans is not a mysterious aberration.
