Ensemble Mumtaz is a dance performance group founded by Dr. Laurel Victoria Gray at JOY Of MOTION.
Ensemble Mumtaz began as a performance group directed by Dr. Laurel Victoria Gray fro Joy of Motion students who sought a serious performance experience in a variety of Middle Eastern dance styles. Ensemble Mumtaz first appeared at the Joy of Motion "Arabian Nights" concerts for sold-out crowds. Ensemble Mumtaz also appeared as guest artists at various performances by SILK ROAD DANCE COMPANY.

FEB 26th CONCERT Historic dances & discount code
This year marks 110th anniversary of
the birth of Mukarram Turgunbaeva,
founder of Uzbekistan's
Bakhor Ensemble. Her iconic
interpretation of Tanovar,
became a classic of Uzbek dance.
This concert reflects influences from
many other cultures that contributed to
the development of Uzbek dance
including the Jewish population
of Bukhara and Samarkand,
represented by
Mavrigi and Isaqar Aqilov's
famous Lagan dance
Persian elements appear in Tajik dance.
One special piece,
Tamara Khanum and Her Sisters,
honors the first woman to dance
on stage, one of five girls of the
Petrosian family, two of whom actively
participated in developing Uzbek dance.
Tamara Khanum first created Pilla,
the silkworm dance,
with her mentor Usta Olim Kamilov.
Of course, the finale will be the Khorezm Lazgi!
