I do everything from restaurant start ups, to menu revamps and team building. I started my Culinary career in London and made it an early goal of mine to work my way up in as many different environments as possible. What an amazing afternoon at where a gathering of our senior chefs from Elewana came together. Chef Khalid graciously gave us a tour of his kitchens and discussed the significance of sustainability and cultivating our own food. He emphasized the role we, as chefs, play in this cycle of food production.

Job Description:
We are currently seeking an experienced Pastry Chef with a fine dining background to join our team on the beautiful island of Zanzibar. This position is exclusively open to Tanzanian applicants who possess a passion for pastry creation and have a strong culinary background in high-end dining establishments.

- Prepare and create a wide variety of pastries, desserts, and bread items for a fine dining establishment.
- Develop and execute unique and innovative pastry recipes while maintaining consistency and quality.
- Ensure the efficient production and timely delivery of pastry items in accordance with the restaurant's standards.
- Collaborate with the culinary team to plan menus and create harmonious dessert options to complement the overall dining experience.
- Train and supervise junior pastry chefs and other kitchen staff.
- Manage inventory, control costs, and ensure proper storage and handling of ingredients.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the pastry department.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and techniques and implement them into the pastry menu.

- Tanzanian citizenship is a requirement for this position.
- Proven experience working as a Pastry Chef in a fine dining or high-end culinary establishment.
- Extensive knowledge of pastry techniques, including baking, cake decoration, chocolate work, and dessert plating.
- Strong creativity and ability to develop unique and visually appealing pastry items.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage time effectively.
- Good understanding of food costs, inventory management, and budgeting.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A culinary diploma or relevant certification in pastry arts or a related field is preferred.

We are open to all passionate and hardworking students that want quality training within our group based in Tanzania. They will need to have some form of basic hospitality training certificate and most important they need to have good attitudes and basic English reading and writing skills. This is aimed at all parts of our hospitality operations from housekeeping, front of house and of course my favourite part... The kitchen.
