DDI is the leading disabled diver training organisation with programs dedicated to providing standards to safely introduce people win varying physical and mental disabilities to scuba diving. So successful has scuba diving been in the rehabilitation of a number of disabled people that DDI has developed a rehabilitation diver course in conjunction with spinal physiotherapists and it has been officially adopted into US military rehab programs (Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Scuba) and the UK (Deptherapy). What does the Pro Training Course Entail? The DDI Pro training course consists of two days of training including theory, confined water training and open water scenarios. The main part of the training concentrates on the psyche of working with disabled divers, examination of different disabilities you can work with, adapting your mother organisation (eg. PADI/ SSI/ NAUI/ SDI ) training standards and following DDI standards to allow divers with varying disabilities to achieve dive certification and recognition and adapting your diver training facilities for disabled access. The training is conducted with myself. Just a short bit about me. I had an accident in 2005 leaving me a paraplegic however continued to teach scuba diving courses and achieved the rating of PADI Course Director in 2008. At this time I run DDI Instructor training courses around the world having recently run successful programs in the USA, Thailand, Kenya, Australia and Dubai, United Arab Emirates The aim is to build a network of quality dive centers and instructors around the globe where disabled people can seek diver training and expand their horizons. Who can enrol on the DDI Pro Training Course? Any active renewed scuba diving professional may enrol on the DDI Pro Training course. Upon completion they will receive the equivalent certification to their mother organisation. Divemaster and Assistant Instructor ratings can be upgraded to Instructor when you reach this level with your mother organisation.
