Joplin Public Library is excited to present its annual all-ages Summer Reading Program from May 28th through July 21st, with the theme “Adventure Begins at Your Library”.

No Library card is required to participate in the Summer Reading Program; however, for the fourth year, the Joplin Public Library is extending the offer of a free Summer Reading Library card to EVERYONE! No matter your age, or where you live, you are eligible for a free JPL card to be used from May 28 through July 21. You may check out physical items from the Library, including books, DVDs, and more - AND - you can use the card to access our digital resources. As always, Joplin Public Library cards are always free for in-city residents of Joplin. Simply bring a recent piece of mail and your photo ID to the Library to register.

The JPL Summer Reading Program is a free program designed to keep the public reading, learning, and adventuring all summer. After sign-up, children, teens, and adults alike will participate by tracking the minutes they read or listen to their favorite materials (books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, etc) on a paper gameboard that is handed out in the Library, or on the easy, free, and fun “Beanstack” app.

Another aspect of the Summer Reading Program is fun, educational, and theme-based Library-hosted events. Summer events include many of the Library's regular programs, and a variety of special events for children, teens, and adults. Find the comprehensive calendar of activities here: https://www.joplinpubliclibrary.org/calendar/

Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins in the Library on Tuesday, May 28, and goes throughout the months of June and July, ending on July 21. Sign-up anytime within those dates to start your adventure!

You may find out more information by visiting our website: joplinpubliclibrary.org/summer-reading, following our social media pages, calling 417-623-7953, or by visiting the Joplin Public Library at 1901 E. 20th Street (20th and Connecticut).

Great work is happening at Jefferson Elementary!

School principal Kern Sorrell received word this week that his students finished 19th in the state for Growth in English Language Arts through the Saint Louis University PRiME Center with a PRiME Score of 96.8% out of 100! This was achieved thanks to 29.8% of the school's subgroup students scored Advanced or Proficient on the MAP test.

The PRiME Growth Report takes results from the Missouri growth model and ensures
that their results do not disproportionately favor schools in which most students live in economically advantaged households. The report instead strives to recognize top-performing schools that often have high enrollments of low-income students—schools that would often do not get the recognition they deserve when comparing raw test scores.

Way to go, Jefferson Eagles! We are proud of your efforts to always keep improving! 🦅
