This Change-Maker Left Wall Street To Support Female Entrepreneurs of Color - Conscious Company

This is a great article about women helping women, especially important for women of color but a lesson we can all take. Women of color are the fastest-growing population of entrepreneurs in the United States. As of last year, more than 5 million Black, Latina, Asian, and Native American women sat at the helms of their own companies — pulling in $360 billion in revenue — and women of color now start between 600....

Getting ready for the kickoff meeting with our new corporate client and found a great little coffee shop/alternative office. Life is good!

The Economist

One of our key actions is to help organizations hold fewer, more meaningful meetings with higher employee engagement.

Perhaps because they are aware of the futility of their input, fewer than half of the people in a large office meeting will bother to speak and at least half of the attendees will at some point check their phones

The Surprising Solution to the Imposter Syndrome | Lou Solomon | TEDxCharlotte

Lou Solomon states that nearly 70% of successful people have experienced imposter syndrome. She suggests that reframing our self talk can be an important first step to building confidence. When that’s hard to do, an experienced coach can help you find the keys to change the your story.

Answers to the self-doubt experienced by successful people can help anyone build a stronger sense of self. 70% of successful people have experienced the feel...

[06/18/18]   As a consultant, I’m often asked how to improve some current process or product that my client is struggling with. Looking at the material for a training class on financial procedures, I asked myself a question that we use in leadership coaching all the time…”was there a time in the past where you successfully navigated a situation like this?” With that simple prompt, I remembered a 2-day business simulation that I’d gone through MANY years ago when the organization I worked for at the time wanted a quick way to teach business acumen. The very fact that I still recall the training more than 20 years later says a lot about how impactful the approach was despite that the material was much like what I was now reacting to as dry and boring.
When I shared the idea of creating a financial simulation with my client and explained what I would model it from, they were excited and energized to move forward with this “new” approach. It just goes to show that we never know where we may draw inspiration from our past, but it’s there to serve us if we only ask the right question.

Jeff Bezos Banned PowerPoint in Meetings. His Replacement Is Brilliant

Hopefully more organizations will follow his lead. Storytelling helps create connection and engagement as well as a deeper exchange of information. Three reasons why narrative memos replaced PowerPoint at Amazon.

Fast Company

More and more I hear from senior executives who feel trapped by organizations that only want them to keep doing what got them to the senior ranks in the first place. They lament lack of personal and professional growth, and a waning of their technical skills. This article points out some great steps, including working with a coach who can help open the aperture to see new possibilities.

The bad news: There’s no single decisive thing you can do to engineer a change. The good news: Your small habits and activities can add up to a successful exit strategy if you’re diligent.

8 Reasons Conscious Companies Should Embrace Remote Work - Conscious Company

More evidence of a growing trend for remote workers. Number 7 about less interpersonal issues may be true, especially compared to those working in cubes, but doesn't address that a lack of interpersonal relationships may lead to disengagement. Coaching employees can be a useful way to let employees know they are valued while helping them address some of the issues of working in nontraditional spaces. Companies are finding fewer and fewer reasons to resist telecommuting.

These companies want you to work from home

More and more people I meet work from home or some other non traditional office space. Challenges they mention include finding motivation and staying engaged with the company. If you are part of this growing trend, what do you find most demanding? As professionals demand work flexibility, more and more U.S. companies are giving employees the opportunity to work from home.
