Introducing our latest project –
“AMERICA’S KILLBUYERS – A NEW INVESTIGATIVE SERIES BY ANIMALS’ ANGELS”
We are excited to announce that after months of in-depth investigations and research we are getting ready to release a series of exposés featuring the current “Who’s Who” of the US horse slaughter industry.
There has been a lot of misinformation out there lately – we are hoping to clear up some of it. Who are the largest kill buyers and who has been forced out of business due to the dwindling demand for horse meat? Who still has a contract with a slaughter plant and who does not?
The reports will reveal how many horses these guys are really shipping, where they are going and how much money is involved. Also included will be information about existing criminal records, evidence of animal abuse, violations and fines linked to a kill buyer – so that people can use these reports as a reference/tool when deciding where and from whom they are purchasing their next horse. STAY TUNED!

Gatz was ordered to serve three years of probation, 480 hours of community service and pay a $10,000 fine. The probation also included the condition that Gatz would not be allowed to buy, sell, trade or own any more horses.
Only a few month later, Gatz complained about the condition that restricted him from owning horses, arguing that he needed to buy and sell horses in order to make a living. Shockingly, the Superior Court for Merced County agreed with him and waived the restriction. Additionally, the 480 hours of community service were removed and replaced with a one-time payment of $3,000.
Since then, Gatz has not missed a beat. Protected by weak animal cruelty laws he continues to trade horses, many of which end up in the hands of kill buyers like Joe Rios (Rio Grande Livestock) and Dennis Chavez. http://www.animalsangels.org/investigations/horses/premises-don-gatz-atwater-ca-2-27-20
