My approach to deciding what to eat...
Keeping a 90% tight diet (means controlled carbs and low fat) with 10% as 'meals off' allows me to lean up.
When I'm 80% tight on my food choices, with 20% of meals having more carbs, I don't lean up.
This is with training and cardio being a constant.
Is your next meal going to be a 'training meal' or a maintenance meal, or will it send you backward?
