The Stamps fall retreat at Camp Kirchenwald was absolutely inspiring. We talked about communication and collaboration and the impact we want to make on the world. Thanks to Zach Weiss and the Kirchenwald staff for making it possible!
Congratulations to graduating Stamps scholars, Laura Cardona!
Laura Cardona, International Business, Honors, Stamps, Momentum, senior, class of 2023; has been awarded the U. S. Department of State the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program for the study of Chinese at Tamkang University in New Taipei City, Taiwan. This announcement was made by the U. S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs by the American Councils for International Education, which supports the U. S. Department of State in its implementation of the CLS Program. With an acceptance rate of less than 10%, the CLS Scholarship is one of the most competitive scholarships in the U. S. and the most prestigious language program for U. S. citizens. During the pandemic, CLS initiated an online remote critical language learning alternative called CLS Spark. Laura Cardona was granted a CLS Spark scholarship in 2022 to study Chinese. In 2020, Laura Cardona was named an alternate for a CLS to study Persian. Now, Laura Cardona has been named a CLS scholar to study Chinese in Taiwan.

Two Stamps scholars participated in the May term travel course to England with Dr. Tara Moore, rising junior math major, Mackenzie Pollachek and rising senior public relations and professional writing major, Ally Bonicker. Congratulations, Cassy! Looking forward to hearing about your internship experience when you return to campus in the fall!
Cassy DeBacco '23 is gaining real-world experience this summer as an intern within the finance department at United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM)!
The Applied Mathematics major will be spending time with IT risk and compliance to work on finance data transformation and improving company processes. Cassy will also have the opportunity to job shadow members of the company, get lunch with team leaders, and attend sessions with speakers who are leaders of success at UWM.
"This internship is a great opportunity to not only get hands-on work experience but also to learn from top-notch leaders and make meaningful connections to advance my career as I plan to graduate in December," DeBacco said.
Thanks to junior scholar, Emily Ward, the Stamps scholars spent their day of service preparing arts and crafts kids for children with serious illnesses through Caitlin Smiles. It was fun to be together and spend our time to help others in the community.
