Beachside interclub 2024!

Our ladies took to the floor in their second interclub for the year and we had such a great day!

We got some great results, but most importantly our ladies took to the floor, gained confidence, tried on new performance wear, and made their clubmates, teachers, and themselves so proud!

Well done Merewether Ladies 💙

MEMBER PROFILES
Meet Sandra Jackson (left) and Janette Bryan.
Sandra and Janette are inextricably linked through a lifetime of Physie with both ladies seeing 3 generations of their families loving the sport of Physie. Friends for some 30 years, they first met at Waratah Club. Janette started Physie at 7, Sandra at 10, after her Mum (Fay) bullied her into it! Obviously, despite the initiation, Physie got into Sandra’s blood because she then went on to teach the sport and low and behold two of her students were none other than Janette’s daughter Allana and our present Ladies teacher, Grace Manton!
Sandra has said that aside from the high and lows of the sport, the Physie friendships formed are the most memorable. And more so, watching her granddaughter at weekly classes is gold and she can’t wait to see her compete for Merewether.
As for Janette, well her husband Ross has a reputation for being the most supportive Physie husband and father, by attending almost every competition they have both been in since the start. Heads up Ross…….. as the 3rd generation of Bryan women take to the floor with little 4 year old Eleanor, your calendar just got even busier!
Well done Sandra and Janette, keep those family traditions alive. # # #

MEMBER PROFILE
Meet Deanne Shaw or Dee, as we like to call her. The week just passed was a huge one for Dee as she retired from work after being with Coughlans Swim Centre since it’s inception in 1995. Dee has seen many a Physie family rock up to the swim centre and has a unique ability to remember all the children’s names and has a wonderful rapport with them. She will be sorely missed behind the counter at Coughlans.

But their loss is our gain! Now, she has more time to practise her Physie! Starting as a very young child, Dee has continued to do Physie all her life with the support of her husband John, who realised from the get-go that he would simply have to fit in and around Physie!

Dee has competed at the Opera House, continues to compete at National levels and has been a valued member of many successful teams over the years, in particular, last year when Merewether won the over 60’s down in Sydney.

We wish Dee health and happiness in her retirement but also a reminder that she can’t do any Grey Nomading during team competition times!

MEMBER PROFILES
Meet the Farmer girls! (From left to right Eve, Sharlene, Ella & Grace.)
We are so blessed to have this family in our Club. Each of the daughters have started out as assistant teachers for our junior club and have progressively moved through to teacher status as they leave school.
Grace, Eve & Ella all started Physie as toddlers, but from what I hear they got younger and younger as each baby came along. They were initially taught by none other than our own Mary Manton.
I was fortunate enough to observe these girls putting their students through their paces yesterday and was awestruck by their maturity, energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism at such a young age. The engagement with their charges was second to none. Merewether Junior Physie club is in very good hands!
Finally, a huge shout out to their mother Sharlene, who obviously has done an amazing job in bringing up these young ladies. Sharlene comes to our junior classes as our Administrator after working her day job and has everything running like clockwork. We cannot thank her enough.
Please congratulate these women for all they do in the name of Physie.
