Our first Boxing Retreat for the year is underway!

Fresh new faces from all over the world have arrived and settled into a groove for the first day of training.

One of my favorite parts of the retreat is to meet and share stories with people from all walks of life. Boxing may be a “solo” sport but there is always a strong community whenever you enter the gym.

Looking forward to a hard week of training with the team and creating an experience we won’t forget!

Stay tuned for highlights of what training in paradise looks like for the week to come 💪🏻

Introducing the “I’m not getting any better” starter pack 👀

All jokes aside, a VERY large portion of your progression lies in your accountability to do the work.

You quite literally get out what you put in so if things aren’t shaping up the way you want them too take a look at the habits you’ve created for yourself and fix the leaks.

From Day One to day 1000 you can’t beat fundamentals 💪🏻

Crawl > Walk > Run 🏃🏻‍♂️💨

Skipping steps and searching for shortcuts will not save you. Build a base, practice the base and you’ll have it forever!

Take the the leap!

18 months ago when I lived in Bondi I used to sit in this spot with my coffee a few mornings a week, watch the waves and think about what I wanted to do in the future.

It was In this place I made the decision to get out my comfort zone, stand in front of a camera and start sharing what I’ve learned over the years in the hope to inspire and teach those who listened.

Now if you scroll back far enough you’ll see that my first attempts by definition “sucked”

Awkward, clunky and completely disjointed. But a lot like any new skill everything gets better with a little consistency and practice!

Things I’d been preaching for years with students in class and I had to sit and eat my own medicine 🤣

So today although I forgot the coffee it was nice to sit and reflect on how far it’s come!

187k more people tune in today (which still blows my mind) and we’ve written, filmed, produced and edited the first full length tutorial course to be launched soon!

All of which never would of happened if I didn’t step outside the comfort zone!

So if you’re reading this and something popped into your head that you’ve been thinking of trying, give yourself permission to start. You won’t regret it! ✌🏻

Slow it down to feel the rhythm 🥊

When you’re trying to build new patterns and skills quality is just as important as quantity.

As a coach I’d rather see 10 reps done with intention at a slower pace than a 100 rushed and messy ones.

If the aim is just to sweat than go for it, but if you’re there to improve than take your time to slow it down, feel the rhythm and correct your position before speeding it up 💪🏻

3 hours driving around trying to find kangaroos only to end up at the top of mount Dandenong taking selfies that look like we’re in the back yard.. 😂

Sunday we’ll spent. Minus the kangaroos 🦘

Why do you train?

It’s no secret I’m a big advocate for the mental health benefits of training and that fighting doesn’t have to be the only goal.

Last night I put the question out to see what people think and the majority responded with the way training makes them Feel being the main reason.

If you were ever on the fence about trying out a new gym don’t just take it from me.

A lot of people out there are adding value to their lives beyond just a workout 😉

A very good coach once told me that if you ask enough questions you’ll find the right answers 🧠💭

Now what does that mean?

Every time you throw something at your opponent they gave you a reaction.

Ask a question, get an answer.

Now whatever reaction they give you feeds you information to make an adjustment to score.

Here’s how that question and answer plays out for setting up our takedown off low kicks.

👊

Life hack - Find a palm tree to drink your coffee by and feel like your still in Bali 😂🌴

To be fair I’m actually just happy to be outside the house enjoying the slightest ray of sunshine in winter!

Oh and a non instant coffee for a change 👀

29/08/2022

Obscuring vision 👀💥

Now it’s probably not a great idea to run around the ring with your gloves on your opponents guard for a long time but a sneaky frame here and there to disrupt their guard, balance and vision definitely has its place 😉

26/08/2022

Power and balance on the right cross 👊🏻

You’re connection to the floor is your connection to power.

Weight transfer is a key part of punching mechanics but shifting too much can leave you off balance and strip the power and accuracy away.

Keep that weight transfer at 60/40 and avoid ending up like a flamingo 🦩

20/08/2022

Todays internal monologue 💭

“Life happens. Things happen that are out of your control.

Now you can either respond to that the way you should or you can let that mess you up.

It's not what happens to you in life that determines your future.

It's how you respond to what happens to you that determines your future.”

15/08/2022

Defensive counter and reset drill in class 👊🏻

Double jabs on the exit are a great way to maintain distance and keep your opponent busy while you move.

The key is subtle footwork. Keep those lunging steps for somewhere else.

05/08/2022

Footwork drills for in & out movement 💥🥊

1. Set range
2. Fire
3. Move out & counter

Repeat with any combination 🧠💭

03/08/2022

Combo work from class utilizing both forwards and backwards movement 🥊

1. Set the range
2. Hit the combo
3. Control on the back foot
4. Combo & exit

28/07/2022

Quick combo on the pads from

Leading a phase or combo with a rear uppercut can be tricky with the exposure to the left hook from your opponent but not impossible.

Personally I like the cross body uppercut with an angle footwork to set up the body shot from mid range.

Have a play and see if it works for you 💪🏻

22/07/2022

Details in direction make a difference 🥊

If you’re looking to stay in range and counter check your foot position while moving under the left hook.

Step back and you’ll create a nice disengagement but struggle to land your counter cross 🧠💭
