Hello! Welcome to UWinnipeg’s Anthropology Student’s Association!

We are a small club as of now, and would love to get all the new members we can get! You don’t need to major or minor in anthropology, you just need to take an interest in it! If you aren’t sure, feel free to pop in for a few minutes to come and check it out! We’d love to get to know you!

In our meeting last Monday, we discussed some possible activities we could do as a group this term, and are very open to hear from you guys as well!

Our Zoom meeting ID is 869 113 3237, and the password is 522789. We are unable to meet in a classroom as of now, but are working on finding a way to do so with those that are comfortable.

We as a group look forward to getting to know some of you soon at our next meeting!

You can also dm , who is co-chair of the CAA Student Committee, if you have any questions about the conference or volunteering!

Are you interested in learning more about what you can do with an archaeology degree? Want to hear about a variety of career paths outside of academia? You can do all this (and more!) at the Careers in Archaeology panel at the Canadian Archaeological Association/Association Canadienne d'Archéologie annual conference!

You can register here: https://canadianarchaeology.com/caa/civicrm/event/register?reset=1&id=15

As our conference date fast approaches (April 30-May1!), we still have a few more spaces on our planning committee! Join us for the next few weeks as we advertise our conference and finalize the last details!

The committee meetings happen online via Zoom and are not mandatory (since we understand everyone's busy schedules at this time of year!). Updates can be sent to volunteers who aren’t able to make it to our meetings 😊 The committee needs more volunteers like you! Is there a specific role you want to play? Let us know! We will certainly accommodate your skills and interests 😊

Being a part of planning and running a conference is a great way to gain experience for future projects and gives you the opportunity to build great skills for future employment! It also looks great on your CV and for scholarship/funding applications!

In preparation for the Manitoba Anthropology Student’s Conference and the CAA student short session, we are hosting an abstract writing workshop on TODAY at 6:30PM for any students who are interested in improving their writing skills and who want to learn what makes a good abstract become a great abstract! There will be guided writing activities and opportunities to receive feedback on your work.

The abstract submission deadline for the CAA conference is March 31st, and for MASC it is April 1st, so there is plenty of time after the workshop to continue to prepare for submission!

2021 Fall Term Update | University of Winnipeg News 19/03/2021

We’ve missed you all so much! Hopefully soon we will be able to meet in person and we can see you all face to face in the fall!

2021 Fall Term Update | University of Winnipeg News Based on the current timeline of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Manitoba, we are optimistically preparing for the return of in-person programming on UWinnipeg’s campus...

Photos from University of Winnipeg Anthropology Students Association's post 19/03/2021

With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting this school year and as we still face uncertainties for the coming school year, we will be structuring the leadership of the group differently for the 2021/2022 year. We will reduce the number of leadership positions to streamline the decision making process in case we have to remain virtual and so that we can focus on growing our numbers to what they were before the pandemic.

With many of our beloved group members graduating this year, every leadership position needs to be filled! We are looking for a President, Vice-President, and Social Media Coordinator. A description of each role is listed below. Participating in student groups is a great way to enrich your time at university, gain leadership experience, and work as a collaborative team to create a welcoming community for students. It is a really rewarding position.

If you are interested in running for any of the positions, please prepare a one minute long speech about why you are interested in the role and why you think you would be a good fit. At our next meeting (MARCH 29 AT 2:00PM), we will hear the prepared speeches and then vote to choose the leadership team for next year.

The transition to the new leadership will begin in May. Current leadership members will help oversee the change, and then after a break for the summer, the new team will take over completely! Help shape how the Anthropology Student’s Association adapts to the new school year and the challenges and adventures that it will bring!

If you have any questions about anything related to holding a leadership position or the group in general, do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are happy to answer any questions and look forward to hearing the speeches at our next meeting!
