Cassini will dive into Saturn tomorrow (Friday, September 15) at 7:55am Eastern Time to end the mission. It is running out of fuel, and to avoid having the satellite contaminate one of Saturn's moons that could potentially host alien life, NASA decided to destroy the satellite in Saturn's atmosphere. It is unlikely that telescopes from the Earth will notice anything different on Saturn when Cassini burns up in the atmosphere, but you can watch live NASA TV commentary from Mission control between 7-8:30am tomorrow until the signal from the satellite fades completely.

Although it is raining now, tomorrow night is expected to be clear. Come to the Perkin Observatory Friday night, September 15 between 7:45-9:30pm to see Saturn through the telescope and talk about Cassini's legacy.
