Ava High School Choirs

Ava High School currently has two choral groups: Mixed Chorus & Chamber Choir.

We compete in two competitions a year, put on at LEAST 3 concerts a year, and many of the studenst participate in the fall musical each year.

Senior spotlight: Matthew Riley
Matthew is the son of Cody and Deanna Riley
He has been a member of the choir for 3 years. After graduating he hopes to eventually become sheriff of douglas county.
His Choir Achievements include one solo and a duet. He also auditioned for district and SCA choir. His favorite musical quote is from the musical Hamilton “immigrants. We get the job done”

Senior spotlight; Kellie Marie Perryman
Kellie is the daughter of Netosha Larsen, William Perryman, Logan Larsen and Jamie Suggs
She has been in choir Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior 8-12
After graduating she plans to Go to OCT to get her Business Degree

Senior spotlight: Owin Larsen
Owin is the son of Netosha and Logan Larsen
This is his 1st year in choir. After graduating he plans To attend MSU west plains and get a hospitality degree. Choir Achievements include auditioning for districts.
Favorite musical quote-“Dont let this darkness fool you all lights turned off can be turned on”. Join me in congratulating owin.


Senior spotlight: Sunshine Cupit.
sunshine is the daughter of Tracy and Daryl Phillips & Jamie Cupit. She has been a member of our choir program for 7 years. She has not yet decided what she wants to do after graduation. Her favorite choir memory was getting to wear pajamas to pops concert in 7th grade. Her favorite musical quote is, “without music, life would be a mistake” Fredrick Nietzsche. Senior spotlight:Mia Brewer.
Mia is the daughter of Glenn and Lisa Brewer and has been in the choral program for 5 years. After graduating, Mia plans to take a gap year before going to school for cosmetology. Her choir achievements include attending solo/ensemble contest. Her favorite musical quote is “where words fail, music speaks”.

Senior spotlight: Brayden Thorburn. Brayden is the son of Tina and Sharlene Thorburn. Brayden has been in choir this year. After graduating Brayden plans to be a flight paramedic. Brayden’s choir achievements include taking an ensemble to contest and receiving a 2! His favorite choir memory is Logan forgetting his robe and not realizing it until halfway to districts. Senior spotlight: Kadence Merritt
Kadence is the daughter of Ben and Tiffany Merritt. This is her first year in the high school choirs. She plans to attend OTC after graduation. Her favorite choir memory was Logan forgetting his robe on the way to districts. We have been so happy to have Kadence with us this year. Thank you for sharing your voice with us:). Just a reminder choir concert is TONIGHT at 7:00!!!

It has been brought to my attention it is listed as being Thursday on the school district calendar instead of the final date.

We would love to have you come support these kids!!!

This years theme is “it’s elemental”. And it should be a fun concert where we are “in our element” 😜😃

We would LOVE to have you come out for our last concert of the school year, tomorrow, April 30. Please note a time change. We will be starting at 7:00 to try and allow time for track runners in MS to get back. Due to this and several other conflicts our order will also be a little different than normal.

Today’s senior spotlight: Samantha Marie Mathews.
Samantha is an alto in our concert choir. She is the daughter of Kevin and Sarah Mathews. She has been a member of Ava choirs for 6 years. After graduating Samantha plans to attend nursing school at MSU- west plains. Her choir achievements include SCA honors choir (4 years), district honors choir, and state for her solo and quartet. Her favorite choir memory is losing her voice the day of contest and having Gaige sing her part.

Makayla Crowe!! A soprano member of concert choir AND mixed chorus.
Makayla is the daughter of Christina and Matt Crowe.
Makayla has been a member of the Ava choirs for 3 years. Her future plans are to attend OTC and become a veterinary technician. Her choir achievements include taking ensembles to district contest. Her favorite choir memory is all the competitions and concerts.

Ava concert choir got an EXEMPLARY (1) rating at contest!!!! Sooooo many setbacks this year. So proud of being able to pull it together!!! We are rebuilding better and stronger!!!!!

Saturday November 11: 2:00 and 7:00 (NOT 7:30). If you know someone attending Saturday evening please share!!! We do not want anyone missing the first half of the show!!!!

Hey current Ava singers and Ava alumnus!!! Mr Buckner our new elementary music teacher is starting a community choir beginning next Monday September 11!!! I would love to be able to come and hear your lovely voices again! If you’ve missed singing and maybe want to reconnect with some choir friends I would love to pass more information to you!!!!
No need to have been in choir you may just desire to make some music together!!!

This weeks senior spotlight: Harley Yocum. Harley is the daughter of Jim and Jenelle Hutson. She has been a member of the choir program for 5 years. After high school she plans to attend MSU and study in social work- family services. Her choir achievements include making SCA honors choir 2 years. They received a Gold rating at state today!

Bethany and Reagan both received silvers on their solos today.

This weeks senior spotlight: Reagan Laine Stillings.
Reagan is the daughter of Justin and Brandy Stillings. She has been in the Ava choir department for 6 years. After high school she plans to attend OTC before transferring to a 4 year university. Her choir achievements include silver and golds at state level. her favorite choir memory is having sectionals with Jeremiah and Jansen and finding jello and then playing hot potato with it.


This weeks senior spotlight is Grace Overcast. Grace is the daughter of Rachel and the Granddaughter of Katrina and Ralph Overcast. She has been a member of the choir program for 5 years. She plans to attend evangel university and major in marketing/business after graduation. Her favorite choir memory is being around some really great choir members. She says she has learned so much from them and will miss every one of them.
