I have been helping a friend gives suggestions on how to apply for scholarships at Utah State. https://www.usu.edu/scholarships/ This is the advice I gave him.

If he is going to Utah State: This is where all the scholarships are housed for Utah State. There is the Aggie Cost Calculator (Freshman) which can help you see how much school will cost. If he goes to USU Eastern or USU Blanding Campuses it will cost less and there are specific scholarships for those schools. Also, coming from Idaho to a Utah school means that he doesn’t have residency and will have to pay higher tuition rates unless he has a parent or grandparent who earned a degree from Utah State University. If so, he can apply for this scholarship here. He can also apply for the scholarships housed under Scholarship Universe as well. Good luck!

I was helping a friend who lives in Idaho figure out the scholarships to go to BYU-Idaho and Utah State. Here is my advice for BYU-Idaho. Utah State's information will be coming soon.

The first thing you need to do is apply for FAFSA (Pell Grants) for his school year. This money alone will pay for all of BYU-I’s tuition plus more.

If he is going to BYU-I: it is a church owned school and the least expensive by far (so that saves a lot of money). You can apply for the BYU-I Grant by March 1st. Depending if he qualifies academically or need based he could receive full-tuition.

Idaho Opportunity Scholarship is another amazing scholarship for students who graduated from an Idaho school. He applies (which takes about 15 minutes) and then you will receive up to six other scholarships he can apply for. These are only to be used if he goes to an Idaho school. They have over 20 million dollars to give out in scholarships.

My daughter did just these three things and she receives her schooling at BYU-I for free plus receives an extra $3-4,000 every semester which pays for books, housing, food, gas, etc.

If you have more time you can go to Scholarship Universe (after he has been accepted to BYU-I) and start to apply for those scholarships. You have a much better chance because these are all legit scholarships. Good luck!
