One of Stan’s favorite players Kenny “Klook”Clarke…

Our favorite Charlie Watts story was told by Keith Richards in his autobiography.

In 1984, the Stones were in Amsterdam. Keith and Mick returned to the hotel at 5:00 AM. Mick wanted to talk with Charlie.

“Don’t call him, not at this time,” said Keith. “But he did, and said: ‘Where is my drummer?’ There was no answer, and he hung up the phone.”

According to Keith, 20 minutes later someone knocked on the door of the room he was in with Mick. It was Charlie, who, far from showing up in his pajamas at that hour, looked perfectly dressed in a suit, tie and perfume.

“I opened the door and he didn’t even look at me, he walked right past me, stood in front of Mick and said, ‘Never call me your drummer again. I am not your drummer, you are my damn singer.' Then he grabbed him by the lapels of his jacket. and gave him a right hook “, Richards recounted.

Rest in the pocket, Charlie.

Thank you Boris.

The Drummer Who Invented Jazz's Basic Beat 04/01/2016

Kenny was one of Stanley's favorite players of all time...

The Drummer Who Invented Jazz's Basic Beat Faced with a rapid tempo one night, Kenny Clarke devised a new way to play the beat on the ride cymbal. His "spang-a-lang," and the rhythmic ideas it generated, wound up transforming the way we feel swing ever after.

Not long ago I made my way into Manhattan to meet Astrid and finally pick up the last of Stanley's inventory from the school. I've only just scratched the surface of what's inside all of these boxes, and what I have already found has made the Advanced Home Study Course totally complete :-) by the end of this summer I should have all 150 lessons professonally transferd from cassettes to mp3s and archived into a members area. I will be holding a live webcast for all of Stanley's past students. Thanks again, be safe and enjoy the rest of your summer:) Keep The Legend Alive...

Our Story

The Spector School of Drumming was founded by legendary drum set instructor Stanley Spector in 1958 and operated until his passing in 1987. A truly time tested bold concept in Drum Set instruction. The school stayed open for a brief period, but soon closed it’s doors without Stan at the helm, hidden away from the drumming community and general public for over 30 years and thought to be lost forever..But with the blessings and consent of the Spector estate it has been brought back, and on to the internet in 2012 by former student drummer John O.Reilly.

The course is unlike any you have ever taken,or ever will take...It is that different, with proven positive results...What was once thought unteachable, can in fact be taught to any qualified drummer in the World...

The Six Week Qualifying Course and Advanced Home Study.Lessons 1 thru 164 as recorded and taught by Stanley Spector himself.
