The BPS annual meeting was a great success today! Great organization by Xavier Urbain and colleagues at Université catholique de Louvain, illuminating plenary talks by Antoine Browaeys and Tim Palmer, and most importantly, great participation by all of the members pictured below. A more general wrap-up will come later.

The deadline of April 19th is quickly approaching for both abstract submission and the early-bird registration for the BPS annual meeting at Université catholique de Louvain on May 28th. The BPS annual meeting will take place on May 28th at UCLouvain. The deadline for abstract submission and the early-bird registration is approaching in two weeks (April 19). We are eager to see contributions from all across Belgium and in all domains of physics.

On Thursday, March 20, the Royal Observatory of Belgium, in collaboration with Belnet, is organizing a workshop on BTFS (Belgian Time and Frequency Services).

The program will include the progress within the BOOSTED project (Belgium Optical network for Optical frequency Standards and TimE Dissemination), but also the perspectives for the next steps of the Belgian T&F infrastructure. The workshop consists of 2 sessions: time transfer and frequency transfer with presentations from different equipment manufacturers, scientific presentations, international collaborations, etc.

The event is free, but the registration is mandatory.

The workshop will take place at the Observatory, Avenue circulaire 3, 1180 Uccle in Meridian room. The workshop starts at 14h00 and ends at 17h00.

The deadline for the young speaker contest is quickly approaching. If you are a student or recent graduate, please submit! You can compete for a cash prize (and a presentation in the plenary session at the meeting). The meeting this year is in Louvain-la-Neuve on May 28th (in English!!).

At the occasion of the next BPS Scientific Meeting (28/05/2025) in the UCLouvain, we are organizing the traditional BPS Young Speaker Contest.

Are you a PhD student? Or a post-doc with no more than 3 years since you got your PhD? Do you want to present your research work in front of the audience of the Scientific Meeting? If yes, do not hesitate to participate in the contest.

There will be a pre-selection in Brussels (ERM/KMS), on 27 March 2025 , and the best three candidates will then have to present their talk during the morning session of the meeting at UCLouvain, where the jury will make the final decision on their ranking: there is a 500 EUR prize money for the winner!

Important dates are:

- 21/03/2025, 2PM: deadline for contest application
- 27/03/2025: pre-selection (ERM/KMS, Brussels)
- 28/05/2025: BPS Scientific Meeting

It is our pleasure to announce the next BPS Scientific Meeting that will be take place at the Université catholique de Louvain on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The scientific program will feature keynote lectures by Dr Antoine Browaeys (Institut d'Optique) and Prof. Tim Palmer (Oxford University), and talks by invited speakers to the various parallel sessions. As always, the BPS organizes its Young Speaker Contest and Best Poster Contest during the meeting.

The abstract submission is now open. The deadline for abstract submission is April 19, 2025.

This year the F.R.S. - FNRS will reward a doctoral thesis in Physics and/or Mathematics (defended in 2023 or 2024) with the Antonella Karlson award, including a 5000 EUR cash prize for personal use. The deadline is March 3rd!
