Simple Obstacle Courses for Kids

We had some fine motor fun in class yesterday.
Peeling stickers is a simple activity, but works on multiple skill sets.
Fine motor dexterity is vital and as well as working on bilateral hand skills (using two hands together for a task). Both of these will help with all those future “school tasks”. By having the kids put stickers on the dots, they also got to work on some hand-eye coordination and visual targeting. There was even some midline work done as well. Just figuring out how to peel the stickers was a lesson in problem solving!
Grab some stickers and have fun!

So you’ve heard a little about our class at total fitness but you haven’t signed your child up yet...NOW is the time!
This class has been a blast so far and we have loved getting to know the kids and figure out what works in this setting.
ABCD Kids isn’t a “workout” class for kids, but rather a whole body/brain experience designed to work on the building block skills essential to future success in the classroom setting. The class is designed for kids ages 3-4 and 5 year olds that have not gone to kindergarten yet.
To make the class more accessible to more people, we are offering a major discount for anyone interested in getting their child started. You can pick and choose the days you’d like to come, or you can sign up for the whole month and have your child come every day! You are not required to be a member of Total Fitness in order to have your child participate.
Please message us for payment options and we can’t wait to meet your child!

Happy October!
We’ve been so busy and having so much fun in class, that we keep forgetting to share some of the things we’ve been doing!
This week is all about visual targeting skills and hand-eye coordination. It’s amazing how entertaining a plate with a hole in it can be, lol!
We also worked on some letter and name recognition with a bean bag game.
Miss tracy even came in at the end of class and let us try out the aerial yoga hammock - super fun!

This is a great article on the benefits of crawling and the risks when a child skips that stage.
Just like we said, babies and kids are developing differently today. We live in a fast paced world and we see so many little ones almost “rushed through” very important developmental milestones. This article explains why your baby should be encouraged to crawl and ways to help them do that.
Crawling is just one of the many skills we will work on in fun ways during our ABCD Kids class at total fitness.

The Learning Risks when Babies Skip the Crawling Phase
Why Babies Should Not Skip the Crawling Phase Crawling seems like an infant’s rite of passage. It’s cute, it’s exciting and let’s be honest, most of our little ones’ first step toward mobility usually follows a slew of phone calls to loved ones and ends up on social media. It’s a step we...
