Liberty Creek Elementary - Meet The Masters

We just finished up our third and final Meet the Masters unit for the school year. Featuring Gustav Klimt, students learned about his decorative style and embossed foil with their own designs. Way to go, Explorers!! ✨

We are excited to announce the winners of our 2024 Kids Run The School fundraising raffle!! A HUGE, heartfelt thank you goes out to our wonderful and generous community that participated and helped raise funds for our art program! (As a reminder, our Kids Run The School event will take place on Friday June 7th, with Pre-K students participating Thursday, June 6th.) 🎨💚

We’re excited to begin our 3rd and final Meet The Masters unit for the school year. Explorers will learn about Austrian painter Gustav Klimt and his intricate artwork, before working with foil to emboss an art project of their own! This fun bulletin board, created by our fantastic volunteer Megan, gives our students a sneak peek into his bright style and the artistic fun in store!

Last week’s Art Club was even more fun than it was messy … which is saying something! 😄 Explorers learned about artists who use non-traditional methods to create art, and then tried out some new techniques of their own. Without a single paintbrush in sight, they worked with cotton swabs, cotton balls, tree branches, necklace chains, straws, sticks, and at times their very own hands to create fantastic, fun artwork!

Koinobori kites were a hit at yesterday’s Art Club! After a few giggles that we would be using **toilet paper rolls** as part of the process, our Explorers got to work with tissue paper, glue, and loads of creativity. The results were very fishy and very fun! 🎏👏🏻

A few belated photos from last week’s after school Art Club. Our students used water colors, oil pastels and sharpies to make their own artwork in Alma Woodsey Thomas’s fun + bright style. They experimented with different brushes, created patterns, and every piece turned out fantastic and unique!

Valentines Day + Art Club = Paper Flowers! 🌹💖 Today we learned how flowers have been used throughout art history, in various styles and by many famous artists. Then, we learned how to create paper roses and accented them with glitter. It was a fun way to end a very fun school day — Happy Valentine’s, Explorers!

Yesterday’s Art Club took us back to prehistoric times, where students learned about cave drawings and had fun creating their very own. Crumbling and ripping paper, drawing with oil pastels, using watercolors, and adding paint splatters for a finishing touch — it was a great, messy, and creative afternoon! 😊

Our next Art Club will be Wednesday, February 7th, 3:30-4:30 PM. Students will learn about and create prehistoric art! Look for the signup, to be sent out later this afternoon. 👀

This afternoon’s Art Club was inspired by Monet and his famous water lilies - our Explorers got to use oil pastels and watercolors and created some really fantastic artwork!

Next week's Art Club will be Wednesday, January 31st, 3:30-4:30 PM. We'll learn a little about Claude Monet’s revolutionary painting methods and color techniques, then create our own versions of his famous water lillies. Look for a signup to be sent out this afternoon!

Our first Art Club of 2024 featured Pacita Abad, and students were able to layer colored paper, use oil pastels, sprinkle glitter, and add gems to their heart’s content. As usual, each Explorer’s masterpiece turned out uniquely amazing!

We’ve just begun this semester’s Meet The Masters classes, featuring artist Joan Miro. After learning a bit about his life and art, our Explorers will use their imaginations to create their own fun, surrealistic artwork! (Check out this fantastic bulletin board one of our amazing volunteers created to help inspire our students and give them a sneak peek of Miro’s wild and unique style. 🎨)

Due to the weather, today’s after school Art Club has been canceled. Students will be instructed to go home as they normally do - please be aware and coordinate your pickup / transportation as necessary.

A fun and festive morning at Liberty Creek — this time for our teachers and staff! Our Meet The Masters lead, Valeria Cannon, taught everyone how to make beautiful watercolor holiday cards.
Our wonderful teachers were gifted watercolor sets for themselves and for each of their students, and Meet The Masters was also able to provide new oil pastels for the school. Happy Holidays!!🎄

Another fun afternoon at Art Club! We learned about how peacocks have been used in various art forms throughout history, and then made our very own using Playdoh and tissue paper! 🦚

Another super fun Art Club — this time featuring Vincent Van Gogh. We learned a little about his life, artistic style, looked at some of his famous pieces, and then created our own bright flower vases using colored paper and oil pastels. Each student showed real creativity in making their own unique masterpiece — well done Explorers!! 🌻🤩

We’re already looking forward to our next after achool Art Club — Wednesday November 8th! Join us as we learn about famous artist Vincent VanGogh, and use oil pastels and colored paper to create our own artistic flower vase! Signup to be sent out this afternoon.

We had a whale of a time 😉 at this week’s Art Club! We learned how artists from many different eras have been inspired by the ocean and ocean life. Then, we used mixed media to create ocean scenes of our own!

We‘ve finished up our fall Meet The Masters classes, featuring French artist Georges Seurat. Together we learned about his life and interests, discussed warm and cool colors, and mimicked Seurat’s iconic pointillism technique with a clever sandpaper shortcut! ⛵️

Our next Art Club will be Wednesday, November 1st, immediately after school until 4:30 PM. We’ll use mixed media to create a fun ocean scene! Signup will be sent out this afternoon. 🪼🐠🌊

Art Club Recap: Learning about, and imitating Yayoi Kusama’s dotted pumpkins was SO MUCH FUN! It was amazing to see everyone’s unique pumpkins and backgrounds come together to create some very energetic fall artwork! Way to go, Explorers!

Our upcoming after school Art Club will feature Yayoi Kusama — we’ll learn about her unique, contemporary style and make our own modern masterpieces!

Another great Art Club Wednesday! This week we learned about Wassily Kandinsky, and used oil pastels to make made our own versions of “concentric circles.” It was fun to see each student’s creative, unique take on the project — well done, Explorers!!

What a fun time we had at Art Night! So many enthusiastic students came to learn from local artists and create fantastic pieces of art — while working side by side with their parents, friends, and family members.
A huge thank you to the four talented artists from our Spokane community who came to share their time and amazing talents with us!! (Heather Strong Brown, Tom Quinn, Karen Mobley, Maggie Andersen)
Also, thank you to Valeria Cannon for organizing this fun evening, to all our wonderful volunteers who came to support and help in a variety of ways, and to our fantastic school staff, including Mrs. Alsaker, and Mr. Weller who helped make this event happen!

Heatherthymeart - Children's Art Classes

Our next after school Art Club session will be Wednesday, October 18th, 3:30-4:30 PM, and will feature famous Russian abstract artist: Wassily Kandinsky! After learning a little about his life and work, we’ll use oil pastels to create our own, original masterpieces based on his style. 🎨
