Warkoczewski Observatory

The Warkoczewski (The Warko) Observatory is on the campus of the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC) on top of Royall Hall at 52nd and Rockhill Rd.

The Warko is used by the students of the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy and is open to the public. The observatory is open every clear Friday night May through October FREE to the public. Opening times vary with sunset. The observatory maybe closed during low temperatures and high winds. Access to the observatory is best by parking on the 4th level of the parking garage and taking the bridge to Ro

Looking at the forecast and the predicted satellite loop, we are Not Opening tonight.

Looking at the radar and other indicators, it will most likely be raining around 8pm and afterwards. I know it is a bit early, but I am calling it now. The Warkoczewski Observatory will be Closed tonight.

With the heat index so high and given the observatory is on a roof surrounded by ballast stone for the roofing, and heat sink structures around, the Observatory will be closed tomorrow night.
