Nur Hamada ‘26, a Rhodes lacrosse player who wears a hijab, celebrates the opportunity to represent her faith on and off the field. “Being Muslim and playing lacrosse has proven challenging at times, but has given me meaning,” she says. Photographer and videographer Mary Gunning ’18, along with a team at Forever Ready Productions, received a Midsouth Emmy in the societal concerns category for their documentary “What We’ll Never Know”. The ceremony for the 39th Nashville/Midsouth Emmy Awards, which is a division of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, was held Feb. 15.

Exciting News! Rhodes has officially been recognized as a "Top Producing Institution" of Fulbright U.S. Students for the 2024-2025 academic year!
This marks the 4th year that Rhodes has received this recognition. This achievement reflects Rhodes College’s strong commitment to international exchange and to fostering lasting connections between ourselves and those in other countries.
At Rhodes College students fully engage with Memphis, combining coursework with urban field experiences, including internships, fellowships, and actionable research. Hear Dr. Austin Harrison explain how the Urban Studies program goes beyond the classroom, providing students with hands-on knowledge and real-world experience.
Dr. Laura Kelly, associate professor of educational studies at Rhodes College, received a Spencer Foundation grant for her project that explores how bilingual elementary students use both English and Spanish to engage with texts in weekly book clubs. Rhodes students will help lead these discussions, supporting biliteracy and cultural understanding in the process.

The A.S.I.A. Lunar New Year event couldn't have happened at a more perfect time this year! As we welcomed the celebration, we also commemorated Valentine’s Day, blending themes of love, luck, and community. The Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival in many cultures, marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and is traditionally a time to honor ancestors, enjoy festive meals, and usher in prosperity for the year ahead.

Last October, Rhodes had the incredible honor of displaying five Tennessee Williams' paintings at the Mississippi Delta Tennessee Williams Festival. Williams, most famously known for his award-winning plays, often painted ideas of social taboo and loneliness. For the next two months, Rhodes' Clough-Hanson Gallery will display an exhibit – curated by Echo O’Connor '25 – titled “Tennessee Williams: Paintings of Love and Loss.”

Due to inclement weather, Rhodes College has canceled all classes, activities, and events for Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
Dr. David Rupke, Rhodes physics professor and lover of astronomical discovery, has worked with students to photograph the galaxy Makani with NASA’s iconic Hubble Space Telescope. On January 15, Rupke shared their findings of ionized oxygen atoms in Makani’s galactic wind at the American Astronomical Society. 🔭 🌟
