Star City Strings

Hello! I began playing the cello when I was 5 years old, and the joy of learning music has stayed with me my whole life.

As a professional cellist, I maintain an active performing schedule with three professional orchestras, chamber music performances, and freelance work. Since 2010, I have taught private music lessons on cello, violin, and piano, coached chamber ensembles, led orchestra sectionals, and taught music theory at the college level. With the experience of the Global Leaders Program, I am a certified Teac

It has been a busy week, especially for our three high school seniors! Just after playing in our studio recital, they will all perform at the Nebraska Music Educators Association conference this weekend.

Shrey and Jenna were both accepted into the Nebraska All State Orchestra through a highly competitive audition. Their concert is Saturday Nov. 18 at 8pm.

Lillias, who achieved recognition as the first alternate for all state, will also be featured in the selective Southeast High School Chamber Orchestra on Friday at 4pm.

A huge round of applause to these dedicated young musicians and their school orchestra directors! It has been a privilege to teach them over the years since middle school!

Wishing a big congratulations to our piano and voice teacher, Sarah Wibben! She performed the leading role in UNL's recent production of O Pioneers. Cellist David Pira also performed in the orchestra for the version that toured Nebraska this fall. All of our teachers maintain varied and active performing careers!

Once again O Pioneers! has come to Lincoln. We look forward to seeing you all this afternoon at the Lied Center!

Rehearsals are underway for our fall recital tomorrow! Last Saturday and today, students have the opportunity to rehearse with our collaborative pianist to fully prepare their pieces for performance. It’s a great way to learn ensemble skills and complete the pieces!

We are having a blast in our Suzuki Cello Book 1 group class! This fall, students are exploring new techniques through games and cooperative exercises. We do activities to strengthen the bow hold and feel different levels of pulse by stomping around the room. Using a modified Twister mat, the students play with a large-scale diagram of the cello fingerboard to grow their confidence at finding various notes. Ultimately, they are learning to engage with their solo pieces in ways that promote memorization and long-term enjoyment.

We have room for a few more learners! Message us about joining the final two classes this fall or enrolling for the spring semester.

Congratulations to the Lincoln Youth Symphony! Last night they performed in a side-by-side concert with Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra. It was a special opportunity for some of our teachers and students to share the stage!

We are closed today and tomorrow for LPS fall break. The studio puzzle eagerly awaits the return of parents to the waiting room on Wednesday!

It’s coming up on recital time! Today’s project: assembling music for our collaborative pianist who will perform with the students. As a creative musician-turned-studio director, this is what my workflow looks like at any given time! 😄

Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 12 to hear our students perform in the fall recital!
