If you have a child in Mrs. Grider’s class you need to know that they were AMAZING singers today! They came in after not getting to work on their songs the last few weeks due to spring break and no school the Friday before, they listened to my feedback, and our second time through the song they literally brought me to tears with their beautiful and strong crescendo and pride in their eyes during the piece!
I CAN’T WAIT for you to hear them all at their concert in a few weeks! ♥️🥹
Ms. Cox’s class featured here loving our spring stations in music this week!

Happy (almost) Spring Break!
It was so fun to see former students up on the stage performing some of my favorite music with the jazz band on Monday.
Students on the left were my Central crew and on the right are some Perry-Worth alumni!
Would anyone be willing to donate this game or keep an eye out at a goodwill for me? Planning to use it as a new station when we get back from break!

It's time to start thinking about our annual talent show this year! Your child should be bringing home this same info tonight or tomorrow.
Our talent show will be IN PERSON but our audition process will be through Canvas. Please read the rules carefully.
The actual date of the Talent Show should be Friday, May 20th UNLESS they decide to use this as the rainy day make up day for Field Day. If that happens, Talent Show will be moved to Monday, May 23rd. Exact show time will be announced on the acceptance letters being passed out on May 9th in case you want to take off of work to come see your kiddo in the show!

Music with Mrs. Walters
Hello! My name is Katie Walters and I am the music teacher for both Central and Perry-Worth Elementaries. In this “story” of my page I would love to share a little bit of my background and how I came to be the music teacher of such wonderful schools!
I am from a small town in southern Indiana called Versailles [Ver-sales] and I attended the University of Indianapolis for 4 years as a Music Education major. During this time I focused on my primary instrument, voice, my secondary instrument, piano as well as all of the music and education courses. While at Uindy I definitely kept busy. Outside of my coursework I was involved in our school’s chapter of CNAfME (Collegiate National Association for Music Education) as both President, and RSO (Resident Student Organization) representative. I also volunteered my time in other groups such as the College Mentors for Kids, McCleary Chapel Worship team, and events such as the Uindy High School Choral Invitational as well as worked as House Manager for the Ruth Lilly Performance Hall.
I have been very blessed to work with outstanding and inspiring educators who have given me great guidance to become the teacher I am today. My first inspiration to become a music teacher was thanks to a woman I like to call Mrs. H. She stepped out of retirement to teach choir my sophomore through senior years and taught me so much more than how to sing words off a page of music. My next great mentor was Dr. Brenda Clark who pushed me to excel in my college years and discover who I was as an educator. Dr. Mitzi Westra also hand a strong hand in this department as she helped me discover myself as a musician and let me be 100% me. Lastly, I like to mention Mrs. Diane Stebbe who helped me fall in love with teaching in an elementary setting. She encouraged me and showed me how not just to be a good teacher, but to be a safe place for students to be themselves.
I was lucky enough to be told about a job fair in Lebanon as I graduated Uindy. After I met with the principals at the job fair and was called back for an interview I had a strong feeling that this is where I wanted to work. When I was offered the job, I knew this was the place I wanted to call home and accepted the position. Fast forward three years and I am still loving it! I also get to work musically with kids from the area at Black Box teaching voice, ukulele, and swing dance lessons which fills my heart with joy.
