Testimonial - Anneli Walley December 2022

By September 2021, our son (aged 9 years) had been out of formal learning for 7 terms (Easter year 2 until start of year 5), being home schooled abroad without any input from any professional teachers or curriculum. Whilst he learnt a lot about life over this time; his grammar, spelling and creative writing was significantly behind that of his peers when he re-entered school in year 5.
Annie tutored him every 2 weeks for 12 months, to enable him to catch up. She identified areas to concentrate on and went to work. Often writing lengthy notes and advice for him (and us) between visits.
Annie did wonders for him both in ability and confidence. I feel this is best summed up by his most recent school report in English:
Effort Grade – Excellent
GAPS Standardised Age Score -109
PIRA Standardised Age Score – 131
‘He has made super headway and should be proud of the overall progress he is making. He is his ‘own man’ who has a wonderful take on life and his work approach to English has been very positive. He is putting a great deal of thought into his work. Listening with increasing focus and confidence. It has been super to see his handwriting style mature.
He has a wealth of fabulous ideas to use in creative writing, which is terrific. He understands the benefit of careful planning and reworking. He notices how he can use speech and action to break up description and move the story on.
His love for reading is wonderful to see. It is also reaping rewards in terms of written comprehension. When he gives questions careful consideration and revisits the text for specific detail, his answers can be very impressive. In his recent assessment, his reading comprehension score was comfortably exceeding the national expected result for his age. He has loved this term’s novel, often making perceptive, intelligent reflections about the plot’s twists and characterisation.
Very well done for all your hard work. Keep aiming to plan and proofread, this will help you take your work to the next level.’

With Annie’s help he has been offered places at both our preferred secondary schools.
I don’t think we could have seen such results without Annie’s fun, creative and focused lessons.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Some great news...the two students who were having their 11+ tuition through me have passed and it looks as though the results will see them through to the schools chosen. We wait with anticipation.
