Strike FAQ 1 tbc

3 March 2023
Kia ora koutou o Te Aronui Tōmua o Mataatua, o Te Aronui Tōmua o Manaakitia Opotiki, o Te Aronui Tōmua o Te Whānau ā Apanui,
It was fantastic to see so many teachers come together at paid union meetings this week as we made the decision about the next steps in our campaign.
Primary teachers have voted overwhelmingly to reject the Ministry’s second offer for our Primary Teachers Collective Agreement.
A vote on strike action will now take place. If a strike is voted for, there will be a ONE DAY strike on Thursday 16 March.
We want to make a special mention of those in areas heavily impacted by the cyclone who were able to still participate, whether in offsite face-to-face meetings or meetings within their schools and kindergartens. Members in cyclone-impacted schools in Tairāwhiti and Hawke's Bay will be offered alternative ways to demonstrate their support for action.
Strike ballot
The ballot is being independently run by Election Services. You will receive an email from them with the ballot on Saturday (tomorrow). If you can’t find your email from election services please check your spam folder.
The ballot runs from Saturday 4 March and closes at 5pm on Wednesday 8 March.
The outcome of the ballot will be notified to members by 5pm on Thursday 9 March.
Primary and area school principals as well as kindergarten and area school teachers are also voting on strike action to take place on Thursday 16 March.
PPTA secondary teachers have also given notice that they will strike on that day.
Be a part of organising
If the decision to strike is made, would you like to be part of organising local strike activity? If so, please fill in this contact form.
