PUBLICATION TIMELINE
Vol. 2 No. 1: The Litmus Test of Existing Systems
To our current and prospective applicants, the timeline for publication will be as detailed below. As always, drop us a DM or email to [email protected] if you have any enquiries about the publication schedule.
As there have been many enquiries regarding submissions in the past week, the submissions deadline for the upcoming issue has been extended to 26 June, 2359 to provide authors with more time to review and update their pieces prior to submission.
For students who were interested in submitting a piece but had insufficient time to draft a proposal previously, we hope this extension finds you well too!

Vol. 2 No. 1: The Litmus Test of Existing Systems
The Journal of International and Public Affairs is a student-led publication for undergraduate scholarship. We are calling for contributions to our next issue, which will centre around contemporary crises and what they spell for our current systems.
You may submit the following for consideration:
• Completed research articles (max. 7,000 words); or
• Research proposals, which should be capped at two pages and present the following: 1) title; 2) abstract; and 3) background, problem statement, research question and aim(s) of the study.
All research articles or proposals should relate to the issue’s theme.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
• The intersections between contemporary crises or their solutions
• The fitness of current political systems, power structures or legal institutions for a world in crisis
• Social justice, the marketisation of society, and the treatment of vulnerable, marginalised or disenfranchised populations
• Economic systems, ideologies or policies for resilient and sustainable economies
• The ethics of data governance, monetisation and exploitation
• The role of the media in a post-truth and highly connected world

The Singapore Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC) is the first annual intercollegiate academic research conference for undergraduates in Singapore. It is jointly organised and represented by four of Singapore's public universities, namely NUS, Yale-NUS, NTU and SMU, and will be the largest and most diverse academic research conference for undergraduates. The Journal of International and Public Affairs is proud to be one of the organisers of SURC 2019.
SURC 2019 invites submissions of either research proposals or completed academic papers for consideration. All research topics must be related to at least one of the three themes: Capital, Culture, or Climate.

The Journal of International and Public Affairs (JIPA) is looking for dedicated undergraduate editors with an appreciation of academic research. Editors will work closely with their assigned writers to plan, review, and edit content. The goal is to deliver informative and engaging issues biannually.
The ideal candidate would:
* Be a current undergraduate from a Singapore university. Students are advised to apply only after they have completed their freshman year.
* Be able to commit to JIPA for at least one academic semester.
* Have a keen interest in policy, politics, and/or current affairs. Being a candidate for a degree or a major in related fields such as Political Science, PLE/PPE, or Public Policy is an advantage but not a necessity.
* Possess an excellent command of written English.
* Be familiar with the style of academic writing and research methods. Experience with citation tools such as Zotero is a plus.

Negotiating these will require both a detailed evaluation of current policies and a boldness to innovate new ones. Now, JIPA invites you to have your say.
Contributions may take the form of an essay, an explainer or a commentary.

JIPA's debut issue considers the many facets of China, a regional giant that remains an enigma despite the enormous international attention it has received. It features the work of 12 undergraduate writers from different universities, namely Singapore Management University, National University of Singapore, Yale-NUS College, and Fudan University. The Journal of International and Public Affairs is a student-led publication for policy scholarship. It will be publish issues centred around an overarching policy theme—our first edition will focus on China, with an eye to the world.
We are currently seeking writers for the debut issue. Topics include, but are not limited to:
• Public policy
• World politics
• Human rights and international law
• Finance and economics
• Science and technology
• Society and culture
• Singapore
• Environment and sustainability
The Journal will feature the following content:
• Issue essays (800-2,500 words) are analytical research articles that follow the central issue theme. These will be peer reviewed and published collectively every month.
• Commentary pieces (600-800 words) are ad-hoc contributions that will be published on a rolling basis. These articles will not be peer reviewed, only subject to editorial oversight.
• Explainers help decompose complex policy ideas, systems, or current affairs into simpler terms. These may include infographics or videos. There is no word limit on such pieces.
