WTG!!! Thanks for the dedication.

What have we been up to lately? Caring for this 86-pound green turtle that was found in the Port Honduras Marine Reserve in late March. For one month now Abalone has been in rehab to correct buoyancy issues, and to become strong enough to one day undergo surgery to remove the fibropapilloma tumors around her neck. Abalone has a good appetite and is consuming her favorite food, turtle grass, and she also likes sprat! When we received her she was anemic, and her packed cell volume was low. In 3 weeks, the PCV value has risen 3 points, and is now at 14%. When it reaches 20%, she can undergo surgery. We hope Abalone will fully recover and one day she can be released back into the sea. FP is becoming more prevalent throughout the Caribbean, yet still rare in Belize. Together with local and international experts we are working to treat this disease. Stay tuned for more updates on Abalone.
