Another amazing text exchange with 3-year old Emmy. Pretty sure she was exchanging some love with mom or dad when she hit the little microphone button. 😍🥰😘

By supporting higher education, the T.E.A.C.H. program is helping to establish a well-qualified, fairly compensated, and stable workforce for Texas children and families.

Most important skills = Capacity for and the ability to ❤️

I've been given the opportunity to create a mobile app for Texas Child Care Training courses. Which I think could be really convenient - since I've heard lots of people take courses on their phones anyways -- this would allow you to have a friendlier and easier to navigate interface for doing that. 🤓

But what I really want to know is what YOU think about the idea!

Would you take just a few minutes to answer a couple of questions? I'd so appreciate it. 😍

At San Jacinto College Child Development Center doing a training: Great Leaders are Visionary - What’s Your vision? Each classroom team is creating a class board for 2024 and each educator is creating their own personal vision board! This is one of my favorite trainings to do because I’ve been experienced such incredible growth through visualizing my goals by creating a board each year for the last 12 years. 🎖️
Interested in this training for your staff? Contact me and let’s make it happen. We can do in person or I can guide you through an online webinar. You’ll be glad you made the investment in your program, staff and children. 🧡

Just wrapped up a great time at the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children conference at the Kalahari Resorts Round Rock, TX! Presented on Infant attachment with The Young Montessorian and Early Childhood Specialties LLC to a room full of amazing infant and toddler educators and administrators. Sure love my early childhood peeps - they are fun and full of life!

This weekend I had the privilege of meeting at the Breakthrough to Success event in Newport Beach, California. Wow! I met amazing entrepreneurs from all over the world... and now have new friends doing life and culture changing work. I'll be a Canfield Certified Trainer soon and am using Jack's excellent research as the basis for my MOMentum Group Coaching program and in training for early childhood teachers.

Here's something amazing I learned that you can put into practice with your kids (and everyone else in your world) today: Many people today have what's been identified as "skin hunger", or touch deprivation - the longing to touch or be touched in a social way.

Here's the remedy... HUGS!! Hugs that last at least 20 seconds. 4 per day to survive, 8 per day just to maintain and 12 per day for growth! So hug that baby, hug your teenagers, hug your partner, hug your friends, and hug anyone else who says yes when you ask permission. I probably hugged 150 people I didn't even know this weekend and it was quite powerful. 🧡

This speaks to the importance of teaching "soft skills" (non-academic) during preschool and early elementary years instead of pushing developmentally inappropriate academic demands on children younger and younger. 🌱

Children are human, just like us. They feel things strongly, just like we do. Their feelings matter, just like ours. The thing is, though, things that seem minor to us can feel overwhelming or heartbreaking to them. And those feelings matter. They can’t be reasoned away or minimized away or joked away. Children need to be seen and heard and understood, just like we do.

Children don’t ‘mis’behave. They behave, either positively or negatively, to communicate.

Small children communicate through their behavior because that is the only method of communication they have. Even when they become verbal, though, they still aren’t able to articulate big feelings and subtle problems well verbally, so as parents it’s our role to ‘listen between the lines’ of our children’s behavior to discern the need being communicated.

Meeting the underlying needs being communicated through behavior, even (or especially) challenging behaviors, opens the door to cooperation and offers opportunities to work with our children on better ways to communicate their needs and on setting and maintaining healthy boundaries for both us and them.

Remember, setting boundaries is not about ‘mis’behavior. It’s about ‘guiding’ behavior, and guidance is something we provide through everyday interactions with our children.

The solution to every parenting problem starts with nine little words:

'I'm here.'
'I hear you.'
'How can I help?'

When needs are met through connection, hearts are opened to gentle, respectful, compassionate communication, guidance, and cooperation.
