Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows: A Decisions Maui and Focus Maui Nui Initiative Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows

Maui Nui occupies a special place in the state, country and world.

However, as Maui Nui residents, we face many challenges that could erode the unique splendor of our islands. Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows is a year-long program designed to train community-identified future leaders. A Decisions Maui and Focus Maui Nui initiative, the Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows program was conceived to promote and develop future leaders through a community-based program designed to address planning for Maui Nui’s future.

The Maui Fire Response Coordinator is responsible for leading Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter’s efforts to expand water quality monitoring on West and South Maui, liaison with public agencies about water quality issues and efforts, provide timely and updated information to our community about post-fire environmental response, and coordinate volunteers. At this time we will only be considering applicants who are currently based on Maui. Due to the time sensitive nature of this position, applications must be submitted by October 4!

Announcing Ka Ipu Kukui’s newest program expansion for youth, Stay Maui Nui, is now accepting applications for our Fall session.

Application deadline is Sept 25th for the program week of Oct 9th-13th (8:30a-4:30p), for ages 13-19. Participants must be able to attend all five program days.

Stay Maui Nui is a collaboration with and offering career exploration for Maui County high schoolers.

Our goal is to expose participants to the varying economic industries and opportunities in Maui/Hawaii, allowing them to not only want to live and work in Maui/Hawaii post-high school or college but to give them the confidence and social networks to do it.

Hawaiʻi Fire Relief Housing Program 16/08/2023

**Important Announcement**
Governor Josh Green, M.D. and the Hawaiʻi Housing Finance and Development Corporation (HHFDC) have launched the Hawaiʻi Fire Relief Housing Program. The goal of the program is to connect those in urgent need of housing due to the Maui fires, with Hawaiʻi homeowners willing to assist by offering unoccupied rooms, units or houses on a temporary basis.

Ka Ipu Kukui mourns the catastrophic impacts of the recent fires that have forever altered Maui. We are sending thoughts of healing and recovery to those who have lost loved ones, pets, homes, places of worship, businesses, and employment. Know that you are wrapped in our love.

Ka Ipu Kukui thanks all of the first responders, government officials, and community members who have pulled together to bring aid to those suffering.

We also want to thank the KIK Alumni who are out there doing everything they can to provide for our beloved community. We see you and appreciate you immeasurably.

MEO has started the MEO-Maui Fires Fund to help place those who lost their homes in Maui fires into housing. Donations will be used to pay for rents. MEO has been assembling a list of available units in the community. Thank you for your support.
