Another great day! First day of Lego Robotics started with building all the missions we need for our robot table. Multiple hundreds of pages of instructions and so many pieces! Everybody worked very hard!

We’re back! 4 and 5 had their first day of math today- they both saved Fred the gummy worm from drowning and did a silly quiz about the years 1975, 1986, and 1999- feel free to guess why those years! 4th grade also did the 100 challenge and 5th grade gave some directions to help their partners draw. We spent a lot of time talking about what things help us to solve problems.
We also had our first day of STEAM class for 3, 4, and 5 today (6 will be next week!). We talked about the Engineering Design Process and built a tower to hold an apple. Lots of testing, failing, and testing again! We are really looking forward to this class this year and are hoping to partner with some community members on some new projects!
Final coding and building are in process now on the two sumo bots. We will go live here (internet allowing!) at 1:00 for the battle!
Love when students go home and continue learning!! Zoriah built her 3d print rocket ship a full lunar landing base and painted it in glow in the dark paint!
Day 4-
3d printing made more awesome designs! We got a few more printed. We will keep printing in the coming weeks and get designs delivered as soon as possible!
Robotics worked hard on their sumo projects! I have no videos to show you today and very little to say because I’ve been sworn to absolutely secrecy by both teams. Top secret plans even went so far as to hide their bots inside boxes so the other team couldn’t see. Their defense and offense plans are VERY impressive! Me to both teams, “You’re kind of terrifyingly good at this. If robots take over the school I’ll know who to talk to.”
Them, “Oh don’t worry, once we set them off we will flee the school…”
We will go live here tomorrow at 1:00 for the epic last day battle!
Day 3!
3d printing continued to work, they have lots of things waiting to be printed now. Miss Green spent a lot of time dealing with getting printers to print! 😂
Robotics continued working through training camp in their sensors. Then we learned about the challenge coming for Friday- Sumo Bots! Each team will build a sumo robot that will try to immobilize or push the other robot out of the ring. They started planning attachments to move the other robot and sensors and code to help their robot see where to move and to stay away from the lines. It’s going to be exciting! Should we go live here on Facebook for the matches on Friday?
Day 2, more awesome work!
3d printing worked on lots of different things, choosing by their interests. Some students learned how to convert a picture into a 3d print file and then work with that file. Others worked on complicated multi part prints like planters, spinners, tools, and pencil boxes. We got a few more items printed today!
Robotics got all of the basic driving skills down, they can now easily move forward, backward, and turn accurately. They built a working arm to grab objects. Biggest ah-hah today was how powerful the distance sensor is! Check out the video in the comments- they are using a sensor that bounces a sound wave (pitched too high for us to hear) off an obstacle in front of it, and using that information to know when to stop. Lots of great ideas how we can use that in competition next year!
Don’t touch the mines challenge
We had an awesome day 1 of camp! 3d printing used royal icing on graham crackers to learn about how 3d printing works and why some designs print better than others. They got logged into tinkercad and designed a keychain and then had some free design time to play around with the tools. Everyone was patient with printer issues and logging in (good thing because 3d printing is 90% patience!)
Robotics got out our NEW Spike Prime Lego kits! We got kits sorted, learned to connect them to the iPads, and played with lights and sounds. We built our first driving bases, and one group started working on coding the bot to drive in a square shape! That’s a lot of thinking for our first day! Videos in the comments!
See you soon!! Remember your lunch if you’re going north classes, meet at the front door of the school because we will be upstairs in the robotics room!
Not too late to sign up! I’m excited for next week!
Day 4, I can’t believe we are headed home! What an amazing experience! Today we toured the amazing NBA head offices and then Harper and the 33 other students chosen (out of 1 million around the world playing Math Hoops!) competed in the final rounds. Lots of time for celebrating and fun!
Revere should be so proud of Harper, she absolutely represented all of you well and with such poise this week!
I was so honored to be chosen as one of 4 Learn Fresh Outstanding Educators, and getting to tag along on the trip to see all the fun was amazing. I even got to be interviewed for Education Week magazine! It was fantastic to talk about my students and the fun and learning we have with NBA Math Hoops! Thank you so much Learn Fresh, NBA, and Denver Nuggets for the fantastic opportunities programs like this provide for our students!! Coming back with new energy, more educators to network with, and some special hardware to decorate the classroom!
Round 2 didn’t go like we hoped, but we’ve had an amazing time! Hanging out at NBA headquarters is pretty sweet!!
Lots more pictures to come, but live update! Team Fuego, Harper and Xavier, just won their first playoff round by ONE POINT and advance to the next round!!
1st round has begun!
Math hoopers who have competed at Denver will get this! Look I got to hang out with Coach Bree AND we got her autograph!
(The nails are sparkly pink, iykyk)
Live at the Global Math Hoops championships!! Harper and her partner Xavier just made their first draft pick! We will update here!
Open to students entering 4th grade and up! Want to do both classes? No problem! Bring a lunch and eat with Miss Green!
We had our annual Hall of Fame pie throwing today! These students improved enough in math this year to move all the way up the ranks of our improver wall to the hall of fame, and earned the right to throw a pie in Miss Green’s face.

We're thrilled to announce that from over 50 outstanding nominations, we've selected four individuals to receive the 2024 Learn Fresh Outstanding Educator Award! These dedicated professionals have made a significant impact on their students' lives and will be joining us at the 2024 NBA Math Hoops Global Championship this June to celebrate their achievements. Congratulations to our winners!
Help us celebrate them by sharing your own thank-you message to a teacher who's made a difference in your life!
Revere will have a LATE START today (Monday, Tuesday 25th). It is cold and windy but the storm is predicted to be over for us soon. Please travel safely! Buses will run on a 2 hour delay, breakfast will still be served, and classes for all students (Pre-K through 12) begin at 9:40am.
Happy Pi Day!

Due to current and predicted weather conditions, there will be NO SCHOOL today, March 7th, for Revere staff and students. Enjoy Spring Break! School will resume on Tuesday, March 19th.
Thank you Luna’s Ovid! We finally got to have our Super Bowl winners lunch today! Congratulations again Bentley, Maxeena, Emillie, Avery, Reid, and Axel!
Students have been earning Super Bowl squares for completing extra practice and showing improvement! We will choose winners each quarter! Prize will be lunch at Luna’s Ovid with Miss Green. Here are the grids in case they want to know what numbers to root for!
Congratulations:
1st Quarter: Axel!!
2nd Quarter Reid and Bentley!!
3rd Quarter: Since this would have been the same as 2nd quarter, we swapped to the first digit- 1-1 so congratulations Maxeena!!
4th quarter- Everyone who would have won at this score already has, so we will have another winner in overtime!
Overtime: our winners would have been repeats again, so I flipped to first digits again- congratulations Emillie and Avery!!
No Math club or robotics today, Miss Green’s son is sick! 😞 See you very soon for the first day of school and our fall robotics team!
