This is a great video.
This video well depicts the experience many of us have, as well as highlighting strengths, and the importance of access support.
Please note, I do not support the ABA practices that is captured at the beginning. The actor has noted she was not aware of ABA practices at the time of the filming.

Martin Hoffman broke trust with the disability community while CEO of the NDIS, and knowing that he had so much control over your choices was a source of fear for many. His resignation will bring so much relief to the disability community.
Under his leadership, plans were slashed and people were kicked off the NDIS, and thousands of people were forced to fight in courtrooms for the basic supports and services they need.
As if this wasn’t enough, he also led the NDIA’s attempt at forcing through "independent assessments,” causing widespread trauma and distress to thousands of disabled people.
Our community continually attempted to reach out and offer him the opportunity to work with us to . Our offers and solutions were too often met with arrogance and a reflexive dismissal of our lived experience as disabled people.
The next CEO must rebuild this trust. This process will take time and actions will speak louder than words. They must stop the cuts, give people their funding back, and call off the AAT cases that are causing so much stress and pain.
They must also demonstrate a commitment to working with disabled people and our organisations to authentically co-design solutions to . And, ideally, this person will be a disabled person.
[ID: Text reads, 'NDIS CEO has resigned!! Martin Hoffman has resigned this morning after mounting community pressure.' Text is orange, red and white on a black and green background. A black and white image of Hoffman is shown in the top right corner and a clapping emoji is shown between the top and bottom bodies of text.]

A win for Autistics!
I’ve just landed back in Melbourne after two successful days of providing consulting advice to Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) CEO Jacqui Borland, and 30 minutes with Aspects Board.
I don’t take this responsibility and opportunity lightly. This is about giving a voice to the people I serve in my community. Below are a list of the main issues I brought to the table;
* Autism accessibility and identification process' in Hospitals and emergency services, the barriers in the current Mental Health Hospital Assessments process', is clinical therapy the best model for us? And what needs to change for mental health inpatient services?
* The differences in needs and experience of Autistic youth, females vs males, and Autistic Adults including Autistic Parents. And the intersectionality of identity with LGBTQIA+, First Nation, and mental health.
* The NDIS funding process, and access of services
* Child protection and negligence from Housing Services particularly around use of restrictive practices
* The Education Department, policies and the segregation of Special Schools and Mainstream - the positives and barriers, and innovation of alternative models.
* Lived Experience Expertise, where we fit and value through remuneration
* Isolation post lockdown
The two days was such a success Aspect have organised to fly me back up Saturday week to attend their Strategic Workshop. This is where the impact will happen as we’ll strategise together on implementing strategy and operations to what's relevent and needed. Big things happening!

For a long time I didn’t speak up about my experiences with Mental Health and Autism because I feared discrimination and stigma. I have always had Anxiety and Autism but it was from my experiences that my Depression was developed.
Since speaking up I have been able to access support and strategies to live my life as an elite athlete and Disability Advocate.
If I could say anything to young Elise, who stays in bed all day, suicidal and alone, I wish they could hear this message.
There is help. There is hope. Your presence in this world is worthy.
It’s been my pleasure to work with the Victorian Government Victorian Department of Health & Human Services to support such an impactful project. It's time we talk about mental health so no more young lives are lost.
You can find more information on the series, as well as resources and information at The Better Health Channel -https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/ or searching .
If you or someone you know needs support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or beyondblue on 1300 224 636. In an emergency, call 000.
Video Description:
Elise Muller was diagnosed with autism at the age of 12 and was told from a very young age about all the things she couldn’t do. But she refused to take no for an answer and ended up playing Australian Rules football at an elite level. Elise is passionate about the role of sport in mental health and founded her own organisation to support people with autism wanting to get involved in recreational activities.
The people profiled in It’s Time to Talk about Mental Health have offered up their stories to illustrate to others how we are all affected by different mental health challenges, and to offer hope to anyone who may be struggling.
Almost half of all Victorians will experience mental illness in their lifetime but too many people don’t speak up for fear of stigma and discrimination. It’s time to start a new conversation - mental health is something that affects us all.

I’m absolutely buzzing! Waking up this morning, after being named the winner of the 2019 National Disability Leadership in Social Impact Award, and today talking on triple j . I feel so wholesome that my message, my purpose in this world is being received.
Growing up all I wanted in this world was to not have Autism. Because then I would be ‘normal’ enough for teachers to want me in their classroom, for my teammates to pass me the ball, for me to have a friend.
I belong not despite my Autism, because I have Autism.
I am committed to creating a world where Autism is understood and disability is embraced. My mission is to ensure no one has the same experience of exclusion that I had; so that no one feels ashamed of who they are, or questions if they belong in this world.
I am proud to be the person I needed when I was growing up; a mentor, and an elite athlete in mainstream sport who is proud to be Autistic, and an ambassador sharing lived experience to professionals, teaching the world practical inclusion strategies.
I am not disabled by my Autism, I am disabled by my environment and others lack of understanding. We are different not less. We belong.
Thank you to Dli, triple j, Ayden for nominating me and to anyone who has ever enabled me.
Big things to come!

Start your morning tomorrow by tuning into triple j to hear me speak at 7:30am.
