Warm greetings from Southampton, Hampshire, UK
We Create Work Ltd
We are a People-oriented Business, founded by People and to help People to excel
Good Business hints and tips for success:
Not all business is good business. Sadly so. For many business people, big businesses to small ones, the end often justifies the means, regardless of the effects on others. Their priority is to make as much money as they can for themselves and the shareholders or investors, regardless on what that does to others. It's a win/lose situation. Survival of the fittest.
It should not be so with you. You can be different. There is no law which says that in order to succeed, you should cheat or hurt others. Jesus' golden rule is that we should treat others the way we like others to treat us. And love our neighbours as we love ourselves.
Do like wise.
There is plenty of work in Africa, more than in developed countries to which we have escaped. All we needcto do is to create it.
It is the citizens of these countries who built them, especially the rich. Not necessarily their governments.
If they did it, so can we.
The economic environment from which we earn our living is constantly changing. Those changes can either pose threats to our businesses or jobs or create new opportunities.
Of late Britain's oldest travel agent, Thomas Cook has gone into receivership as a result of which thousands of workers of all grades have lost their jobs and livelihoods. No job is secure, whether the employer is a large or small employer.
One of the factors blamed for this collapse is the Internet. Instead of booking flights from travel agents, travellers can now book online. This has created new opportunities for businesses offering these online booking services while taking some business from brick and mortar travel agents.
This is just one example of the positive and negative effects of the Internet on businesses and their workers.
With this in view, in order to keep on working and earning, whether employed or not, one should learn how to Create Work. To this end, look out for new opportunities in the fast- changing economic environment.
This message is specifically for my fellow African in Africa and in the Diaspora, from a concerned fellow African. This, however does not exclude some of my non-African friends.
If we are of African origin, whatever passport or residential status we hold in the Diaspora, we need Africa and Africa needs us. She is our Mother Land and has great potential. We can not disown her. Let us not let the continent drown in poverty, bloody tribal wars, disease, corruption and ignorance. Wherever we are domiciled, the majority of our loved ones still live in Africa.
Unemployment is a major social problem in our continent, in spite of her abundant natural resources, sunshine and space. There is plenty of Work that needs Creating. We can do it.
Let us stop killing and stealing resources and start building. Instead of our young people learning how to use guns to kill and maim, let them learn occupational skills. Instead of war, let there be peace. Instead of hate, let there be love. Instead of darkness, let there be light.
To Create Work, one of the conditions that can facilitate this is a stable and peaceful environment. May we do whatever we can to achieve that. Lay down our killing arms and take of tools that can save lives. What is wrong with that?
If you share my concern for Africa and are honest and a man or woman of integrity, who can be trusted with other people's money, we can do business. Make a Positive Difference in our own lives and in the lives of our fellow Africans.
Where there is a will, we will find a way.
Let us make Africa blossom. Of course, we are able to do it, if we believe it. I do.
Our struggle continues. We are not yet free.
How to manage Change
We earn our living in a very fast-changing economic environment, in which the only certainty is Change itself.
Change can be good and it can be bad for livelihoods. It can pose a treat for the old way of doing things and create opportunities for the new. Technology is a typical example.
If you want to Create Sustainable Work, you will need to be always on the look out for Change. Avoid the threats if possible and grab the new opportunities. You can not afford to be neutral. If you are resistant to change, the world will move on and leave you standing, confused, unemployable and poor.
You have to be a constant learner. Adapt or die.
Better still, be a Positive Change Agent. Create Change instead of being its victim.
Over my decades of working and existence, I have had to navigate many changes and adapt to them. I am still learning. We will be covering Change in more detail in dues course.
WHAT SORT OF WORK SHOULD I CREATE? YOU MAY ASK YOURSELF.
In a perfect world, all Work must meet a human need or want. That should come first. Human life before money. Not the other way round. In other words, the end must not justify the means. Love your neighbour as yourself. If it is not good or safe for you, it is not good or safe for the user of your product or service. Do to others as you would expect others to do to you.
This should make sense whether or not you believe there is a God in whose image we are all made. He is the giver of life, and holds anyone who harms His creation in the course of creating Work and making money responsible.
With that in view, ideally, your service or product should do no harm to human or animal whatsoever. If it is food or drink, or medicine, it should be safe for human consumption. In the short or long-term.
But we know that, in the real world of business, this is not always the case. Industry is responsible for spreading disease and even destroying human lives. All this in the name of generating wealth and creating jobs. But in reality, what is good for the economy is not necessarily good for the citizens.
We are warned that the love of money is the root of all evil. Not money itself, but turning it into a little god to be worshipped, whatever the consequences. If you care for life, this shouldn't be the case in the Work that you Create. However, that decision is entirely yours. But as for us, if it does not meet our ethical policy, we will not support it.
Your Work should be lawful, ethical, not corrupt morals or degrade humans. Put some principles into whatever you do. We aim for that. I hope that makes sense.
EMPLOYMENT UNDER A MASTER IS NOT A BIRTH RIGHT, BUT SELF-MADE WORK IS, AS WELL AS A RESPONSIBILITY. BECAUSE WE ARE ALL MADE IN GOD'S OWN IMAGE.
Whenever unemployment is high or there are job cuts and redundancies, the jobless and those whose jobs are threatened by lay-offs often protest about their situation. Some one is to blame. So they think. The culprit isofen the government of the day.
What this mind-set implies is that someone out there has the responsibility of creating Work, and some people out there are entitled to ready-made jobs. And if their expectations are dashed, they feel let down. They protest.
genuinely democratic countries in which elections are free and fair, governments are voted into and out of office on the issue of employment. If unemployment is high they become unpopular and vice versa. Governments also make the mistake of taking credit for low unemployment as though they are the ones who created all the jobs, which is not always the case.
Historically, in the traditional rural economic system in which was born and brought up, it has never been the responsibility of rulers to create jobs. Instead, every free able-bodied adult male or female who had access to land or other natural resources, such as fisheries, created their own Work. My parents and the entire rural community also did.
But the urban economic system changed all that. More urban dwellers are employed or looking for employment in the private, public or voluntary sector. Under this new economic system, too many workers and job-seekers depend on too few job-creators. Hence high, chronic, global unemployment and it its adverse social problems: poverty, poor health, homeless, vice and crime.
The reason for that is to a large extent our education system. This prepares learners to be good servants and not masters of their own destiny. Graduates to expect to expect to walk into ready-made jobs that someone else has created. To be servants and not masters. It continues to turn out graduates and school-leavers for jobs that do not exist. These youngsters have often their hopes dashed when they enter the job market only to find that no one needs their certificates, diplomas or degrees.
The aim of We Create Work Ltd is to change all that. It is to make people aware that it is first and foremost their own responsibility to Create their own Work, rather than leave that important role to some one else. A fellow, fallible human being.
We are all made in God's own image with the ability and responsibility to Create our own Work. Then show those who join us how to do it.
Creating Work can be learnt just like any occupational or social skill. No educational qualifications are necessary.
Please watch this space.
The fairest master you will ever Work for is yourself. He or she will not cheat you, underpay while overworking you. You will be rewarded in proportion to your efforts. None of the Work you do will enrich another person, unless its is charity Work.
To find that fair employer, you will have to Create your own Work. To that end, we will equip you with the right tools and even support you. However, how much you will earn is entirely up to you.
You will learn far more in a very short space of time in the Work that you Create than you will ever learn in a life time of working under a master. The sky is the limit. That will also boost your confidence.
Those who can Create their own Work and hire others are invariably the masters. They also command more respect.
The best Work you will ever do is the one that you Create.
> It is your own Creation. You are the boss, and report to no one but yourself.
> You are in total Control of your entire working life.
> You earn according to your ability, not according to someone else's pay scale.
> No one looks over your shoulders, telling you what to do and how to do it, and giving you unreasonable dead-lines.
> No one can make you redundant or force you to retire against your wishes. You Work for as long as you are able and willing to do.
If you know how to Create your own Work and are willing to help others to the same end, you will never again be jobless. Guaranteed! Why that assurance? Because there will always be plenty of Work to do as long as life on this planet shall last, because there will always be unmet human needs and wants. Admittedly some of it may be unpaid, voluntary. We Create Work whenever we identify and meet those needs. Man's greatest material need is Work. Without it, he can not fulfil other basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, health-care etc. Even gathering freely available wild food and hunting for wild games involves Work.
Unemployment is a chronic global social problem, which no ruler is able to solve. Too many skilled and unskilled job-seekers are chasing too few jobs. These desperate people need a helping hand. This is what we are in business to do.
Joblessness is also a major cause of many social problems, such as poverty, hunger, disease, ignorance, ill-health, crime and vice. "Idle hands are the devil's workshop.", says the Wise Man King Solomon of ancient Israel.
Please stay with us, and we will show you how to, and you will love it. If you have knowledge that can help us achieve this aim, and you are honest and a person of integrity, who can be trusted, you are welcome to join us. Together, we can make a Positive Difference in your own life and in the lives of those you will help into Work. How about that?
There is strength in numbers. Two heads are better than one
The strength of any economic system, past and present is Collaboration. In the modern system it is: co-operatives partnerships, limited companies, joint ventures, consortiums, employers and employees organisations, to name a few examples.
The more communities and countries are able to harness this powerful force, the more powerful and prosperous it becomes. The contrary is also true.
Honesty the best policy
In order to accomplish anything of substance, pooling human and natural resources is an absolute necessity. But for that to work, the parties concerned must be honest, transparent, trusting and trust-worthy. There must also be some checks and balances. And a rule of and respect of law.
We nee your support and prayers
By the same token, We Create Work Ltd will only achieve its aims help many to Create their own Work, it with need the support of those who share its inclusive vision. To make a positive difference if the lives of many who are presently disadvantaged, poor and helpless. These folks desperately need a helping hand and not a hand-out. They need to be empowered to help themselves, so that they, in turn can help others. Each one reaching one.
Thank you in advance for reading.
Watch this space for more.
Knowledge is power for good or for evil. The same applies to earning a living in the past and present economic systems. I have lived under both rural and urban systems. So I am writing from personal experience.
Every economic system, ancient or modern is sustained by a degree of knowledge. For example, for the hunter and trapper, it is the ability to study animal behaviour. For the fisherman it is to know the best season and place for catching fish and the right fishing gear and bait to use.
Our predominantly urban, modern, complex and volatile economic system is also knowledge-based to a much greater extent than its rural predecessor. Because it constantly changing, we have to keep on acquiring new knowledge to remain employable. There is no end and no graduation to learning. It is called Continuous Professional Development. In many professions, it is mandatory to keep up to date to remain on professional registers.
To Create modern Work, we have to be agile and innovative. Keep up with change. At best, be a Change Agent.
"You will eat bread by the sweat of your face." Genesis 3:19. According to the Holy Bible, this is what God said to Adam and Eve after they had eaten of the forbidden tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They had to Create their own Work in order to eat bread. To be entrepreneurs.
And throughout the ages, the human race has had to toil and labour in order to sustain himself and his dependants. Whatever the economic system, rural or urban.
What qualifications does one need to Create Work?
Absolutely none, with some exceptions, for example where the Work you are going to Create will involve practising some technical or professional skills, such as building, plumbing, hair dressing, painting and decorating, practising medicine, dentistry, law, accountancy, to name a few examples.
In the UK and some modern countries, in order to practice certain Work, certification may be mandatory. That means it may be illegal to do it without.
Apart from those exceptions, if you are enterprising and have a business idea and the means, you do not need any qualifications.
When I was born, my parents were self-employed. They created their own Work. They had learnt agriculture informally in their parental homes. That is how skills were passed on from generation to generation. They bought a farm on which they grew crops and bred and raised domestic animals. It is on that farm where I served my first informal apprenticeship in crop-growing and animal care.
The entire farming neighbourhood was made up of self employed land-holders. All of them had no formal qualifications.
Before my own mother got married, while still living at home, in her spare time, she knitted woollen hats. These, she carried, on her head, to the mine compounds. The she sold them to miners to protect their heads against the cold winters. With the proceeds from her business, she was able to buy a brand knew Singer hand sowing machine. In those days, it was a luxury, which not many Africans could afford.
When my mother got married, she used that machine to sow clothes for her sons and daughters, including myself. In our childhood we never wore read-made clothes.
Where my mother learnt how to knit, use a hand sowing machine and make clothes, I have no clue. She was an Entrepreneur in her own right, though she had no business degree. You get the picture.
Entrepreneurship can be learnt, just like any occupational skill, in an educational institution plus industrial experience or informally.
However some people are born entrepreneurs. Bill Gates had no business or any university degree. The same applies to the British billionaire and entrepreneur, Richard Branson.
One of my former British Timber merchant client could neither read nor write, so he told me but started and ran a successful builder's merchant business. When he retired, he passed it on to his son, who in turn passed it on to his own son.
The business employed relatives and other workers.
We are all born with dormant entrepreneurial talents waiting to be aroused. But unless you try, you will never know how good you are.
"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, no device, no knowledge, no wisdom in the grave wither thou goest." Ecclesiates 9 vs 10 (KJV).
(Incidentally the dead are not in heaven with Jesus, according to this text. They are resting in their graves unconscious of the world around them.)
I started my first business while still in my youth as a spare time hobby, living at home. I made simple furniture for home use, from locally sourced. For that I used basic joinery skills that I had learnt in primary school. Neighbours admired handwork and placed orders. I was in business. The more furniture I made, the better my handwork became and there more popular in the area I became. Word of mouth.
If we use the talents (one or more) we have been blessed with, God will bless us with more. It is more blessed to give than to receive. But if we bury it under the ground, we lose it. The Giver is not happy. He condemns us as an unfaithful servant. What we do not use, we lose.
Some of the very successful global, multibillion dollar IT businesses were started by young students as hobbies. Today there are young multibillionaires. In the process, they have also created many new highly paid jobs for others. But there are many equally, if not better qualified I T and other specialist guys who are jobless and poor waiting for someone to hire them or doing boring, menial low-paid jobs.
Many accomplished world famous artists didn't do it for money. They did what they enjoyed doing, paid or unpaid.
Many inventors don't do it with money in mind. They see an unfulfilled need, health, etc and find a solution.
We live in a world in which people would rather sit and be bored than help someone for nothing.
I do what I am doing not only with money in mind. I am sharing my many years of accumulated work and self-employment experience. When I am dead and gone it will be of no use to anyone. I see an unfulfilled or inadequately fulfilled global need. Lack of which is contributing to poverty and all the others related social problems.
If you know how to Create Work and can help others do the same, you will never again be jobless as long as you are able and willing to work. Believe me there will always be some work to do as long as life on this planet shall last.
Admittedly some of it may be unpaid, voluntary, as what I have been writing online for years. I do so because I enjoy it. I would do it for nothing.
Before the money economy, most of the services that we now pay for were provided freely in the community by friends and family. Some still, like burying the dead, preparing for weddings, caring for the sick, doing and cutting each other's hair, to name a few.
Develop the habit of keeping yourself busy and I can assure you, some one out there needs your services. Teach a poor child how to read and do sums, if you can. It's better than being idle and bored.
It is more blessed to give than to receive, according to Jesus.
Creating Work is not all about making money. It is also avoiding idleness and boredom. Using the diverse talents that the Lord has blessed each one of us with. Even doing His holy business is essential work. Calling people out of darkness into His marvellous life. Helping them to enjoy their lives to the utmost and live healthy and productive lives. Rescue the perishing and care for the dying. Prepare them for a better world to soon come, where there will be no more pain, no more fear, no more death, no more corruption, no more separation and disappointments.
How to Create Work
It is doable. First of all believe that We can do it, using our diverse skills and labour individually and collectively. Others have done it, so can we. It is not Rocket Science.
We must have the will to do it. Where there is a will, we will find a way. They say it is better to wear out than to rust. Rather die fighting poverty than from idleness.
Work is created by mortal humans here on earth, just like us and not super being, with super brains from another planet. We are all made in God's own image with the same brain power.
Wherever possible, let us produce or make what we consume or use rather than buy. That includes dirty second hand clothes that others has discarded. That is not sustainable. We are not dust bins of other people's waste. That is not healthy. If that is all we can afford, fine. But we should not depend entirely on that.
Whatever we try to do is never going to be easy. Nothing good in life comes with hard work and even some disappointments. Rome was not built in one day. At least we must start from somewhere.
According to a Chinese proverb, "A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step."
The traders who cross seas to source what others have made should invest in making at home.
For those who live in less developed countries, including Africa, let me assure you that there is far more work to be done building those countries, yet ironically so many of our people are idle and poor. They need organization. That is the missing link. Together, we will take care of that.
Rather die fighting than from fear.
Work is the answer
One of the major causes of poverty is unemployment. When people are not working, they don't earn and when they have no earnings, they can not afford even the very basic necessities of life, such as food, clothing, water, good housing, health care, education for their kids. These things cost money, and without it the poor simply go without. Their mental and physical health suffers. The immune system is compromise and they very easily succumb to any infection.
The majority of our people in the developing world, including Africa are in that sorry situation.
The solution is Work-Creation. This is what we are in business to address. Of course we can't this on our own. We need your support for this initiative to function effectively.
Together we can make a positive difference in our own lives and in the lives of our fellow men. We can transform our countries and uplift our people.
The most sustainable way to alleviate poverty and other related social problems is not to dole out aid, but to make people productive and self-reliant. Not to keep them as perpetual beggars. Empower people to help themselves.
If you know how to do this, you will never again be jobless. Guaranteed. There is plenty of work out there as long as life shall last. Admittedly some of it may be voluntary and unpaid. But it is still work and better than being idle and bored. Along the way, you will learn something. Gain Work experience.
Six days you shall toil and labour is part of the moral law, the Ten Commandments, which incidentally Jesus did not come to abolish, but to fulfil. It was necessary before and after Christ's ministry on earth.
Work is an inseparable and essential part and parcel of life. It is an end in itself (just to be occupied like a hobby, voluntary and unpaid work) or a means to an end - earning a living.
Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made by our Maker. They were designed for work and they must be exercised to keep both body and mind healthy. Work is a therapy.
The powerful brain was designed for learning, reasoning, making decisions, etc and the strong muscles and limbs for lifting weights, moving objects around and mobility. Work is good for both the body and the mind. That is why I love it so much. I can not see myself being idle. That would drive me mad.
How we Create Work
We Create Work by either providing a service (painting and decorating, teaching, counselling, healing, doing someone's hair, child-minding, just to name a few examples) or making (manufacturing) producing and selling things. Or just buying and selling what others have made (trading).
Under the rural economic system, We Create Work by exploiting and utilizing natural resources, for example: animal or plant farming (agriculture), fishing, hunting, forestry (logging), mining, drilling for oil. Under that system, the Work We Create depends to a large extent on available natural resources and the skills people have.
To make something worth buying one needs relevant skills (engineering, design, a trade, for example). However if you have the resources, but lack relevant skills, you can hire skilled manpower to work for you in return for a salary or wage.
Business owners (Entrepreneurs) do not necessarily know everything that their businesses do. The famous British Richard Branson, for example. As well as their own skills (if any) they also hire and manage skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled man-power. That is how they Create Work for themselves as well as for others. The do things through other people. That is what leadership is all about.
The aim of this organization is to empower people everywhere to help themselves into ethical, lawful and healthy work. They can do so by creating their own work rather than rely on their fallible, mortal fellow human beings to hire and pay them.
We believe that creating our own work is a personal responsibility of every able-bodies, sane adult. It is not that of the state or any other organization. We facilitate and support Work-Creation to alleviate poverty, vice, crime and other social problems associated with unemployment.
This is a just cause in chronic all of us regardless of education, age, social and racial background can participate.
Unemployment is a global social problem that no political is able to solve. However, that said, the truth is that there is plenty of work still to be done. But the vast majority of the urban population, skilled or unskilled, do not have the skills and knowhow with which to create their own work. They would rather work for an employer for a fixed and guaranteed pay, no matter how meagre that may be.
We provide the tools and the support for those who seriously wish to help themselves into their own work. Together we can make a positive difference in our own lives and in the lives of our fellow human beings.
