SESA staff participated in a “disguise a turkey” contest and they pulled out all the stops. Congrats to the winners!
1st place- Travis Kelce and friends (this was a joke to match Mrs. Kirby’s TSwift turkey) made by Mrs. Morningstar, Miss Heidi, and Mrs. Hannah
2nd place- McCafe made by Ms. Nobles
3rd place- Brutus Buckeye made by Ms. Rian
Even though the other turkeys didn’t win, they were all so wonderful!
Our canned food drive has come to an end and it’s safe to say that SESA has some very sad Gamecock fans, but one ecstatic principal! Clemson defeated Carolina by 246 items this year and SESA will thankfully be able to donate 1,000 cans to local food pantries. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this food drive!
All the things we’re thankful for! ❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations to 5th grader Easton McCutcheon for winning a $50 gift certificate for being the top TAG seller in our Butter Braid fundraiser!!!
Mrs. Kirby caught some 4th grade artists in action this week. They are working on creating portraits in Tim Burton’s style. The rough drafts are amazing and we’re sure that their final versions will be even better!
Don’t forget! We hope to see YOU there! 🛼🪩
This is going to be so much fun! Wonder which homeroom will win the pizza party?
Veterans are already lining up! We’re so excited to honor them today! ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸
Save the date and invite a veteran you know to participate in our parade. We can’t wait to honor all of our veterans on this day!
Our TAG students had a great time today. Check out the comments for a video of them singing a new song they learned today. Thanks MFBG for being so wonderful!
Let’s fill this up!
We spy some SESA students and parents! ❤️
It’s safe to say that our first graders enjoyed themselves at Langston Ranch today!
Congratulations are in order for two of our very own teachers! Mrs. Hannah Matthews and Ms. Rebecca English were both awarded a Bright Ideas grant through Santee Electric Cooperative and were surprised with their checks today! We’re so happy and excited about this opportunity. 💡💙
In all the craziness of Halloween, we also celebrated our October birthdays. Here’s the only video we got because we were too busy celebrating! Happy birthfay!!! Birthday!!!
Have you invited a Veteran to our parade? Like this post if you have! We can’t wait to honor all Veterans on Friday.

We have an important week coming up this week because MAP testing begins on Monday. Your child's teacher should be reaching out to you to let you know which dates your child will be taking their ELA and Math MAP tests. Our student lighthouse team has decided, based on student input, that our MAP incentive for this testing round will be a movie and snacks in the auditorium if students meet both their ELA and Math MAP goals for the winter testing term. We're going to make sure the students have a movie theater experience during this incentive. Also, students will earn one piece of candy for every point they increase on Math and ELA MAP from Fall to Winter, regardless of meeting their goal or not as long as they increase their score. Our first graders will be traveling to Langston Ranch on Tuesday, November 7th. FSD3 is also hosting Reading Under the Lights on Tuesday, November 7th from 5-7 p.m. at the Lake City High Track Field. I hope to see some SESA faces there doing their 30 for 30 on Tuesday night. On Friday, November 10th we will have our Veterans Day parade beginning at 10:00. Please invite a veteran to decorate their vehicle and participate in our parade. We will have the parade lineup on School Drive and cars will travel through the car-rider loop and then out onto Camp Branch Rd. Be sure to check Facebook for highlights. We will have canteen on Friday for those students who have earned this attendance incentive. Please be sure to send in any doctor excuses or parent notes with your child when they return from an absence. Congratulations to Mrs. Daina Welch's homeroom class. They earned the Golden Shovel for the month of October! They get bragging rights for a whole entire month! Don't forget about our food drive. We have boxes up front for students to put their canned food in. They can choose either Carolina or Clemson. Let's show our support for our community by donating to this great cause. We'll donate all canned foods to a local food pantry. New Ready, Set, Grow! Calendars will go home with our 3rd-6th grade students on Monday. I hope that you encourage your student to complete this calendar each month. We're learning about Habit 4 which is the Think Win- Win. It's important to find solutions where everyone benefits. We are also doing a "Thankful Collaboration Board" at SESA. Every child has the opportunity to bring in a picture of someone that they're thankful for or a note with a name on it. We're going to combine them all in our 300 bldg hallway to make one big collage or thankfulness. This isn't required, but we hope everyone participates. Once again, thank you for all that you do each and every day to help us achieve our mission of empowering our learners to solve problems, make connections, and lead the way!
Invite a veteran to join our parade!

We can't wait to see this come together! Send those pictures and names in next week!
4K students were working hard on their lessons today. Just look at that concentration!
Congratulations to Carson for winning our Ready, Set, Grow! Contest for the month of October. All 3rd-6th graders are encouraged to participate in this challenge of 15 extra minutes on IXL and Lexia daily. We choose one winner for the month, but everyone who turns in a completed and signed calendar gets a uniform pass!
Mrs. Kirby’s 30 for 30 bulletin board is getting full and that’s a good thing!
Jami Kirby
Congratulations to Mrs. Daina Welch’s first grade class for winning the Golden Shovel for October! They earned the most points for daily attendance and behavior. They get bragging rights for a whole month. Their picture is in the comments!
6th grade students were working together on a “Glow Lab” today where they learned about thermal energy transfers and what happens to the molecules of matter when heat is applied and when heat is taken away. They had to determine if the brightness of their glowsticks were brighter in hot water or cold water. Their conversations were academic focused and learning was evident! Way to go 6th grade!
This is going to be so much fun! Wonder which homeroom will win the pizza party?

SESA Teachers- drop your pics in the comments!
Trunk or Treat was so wonderful! Thanks to our parents, community businesses, and district staff for making this a success. One thing is certain…when there is an opportunity to support SESA, people show up and we’re so thankful!
Popped into the media center this morning and got to see a collaboration lesson facilitated by Mrs. Drost and Mrs. Hannah! Kiddos were learning about theme!
Good evening SESA Families! This is Mrs. Kirby with your weekly update for the week of October 30th. We will have Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, October 31st beginning at 12:15. If you're participating by decorating a trunk, we will open the gates at 11:00 for you to get started. We will begin calling 4K at 12:15 and work our way up each grade level. Students may wear their costumes to school and they need to bring a bag or bucket to put their candy in at Trunk or Treat. That day will also be Club Day and we will celebrate our October birthday students. On Wednesday, November 1st we will begin our Clemson vs. Carolina Food Drive. Students are asked to bring in canned goods from November 1st through November 17th. They can either donate them to the Clemson bucket or the Gamecocks bucket. Don't forget that we will be MAP testing beginning the week of November 6th. Your child's teacher will send home specific dates for testing, but it's never too early to talk to your children about doing their best to meet their goals. We also have our Veteran's Day parade coming up on November 10th. Please make sure to invite a special veteran that you know to join our parade. More info will be posted on Facebook this week. Don't forget about 30 for 30. My 30 for 30 board is getting really full and that makes me happy. I'd love to give your kid a shoutout for doing their 30 for 30. Just take a picture of them reading and tag me on Facebook. Please be sure to send in any excuses or doctors notes if your child is absent. Chronic Absenteeism letters will go home towards the end of this week. We will finish up learning about Habit 3 which is to Put First Things First, and move to learning about Habit 4 which is to Think Win Win. Once again, thanks for all you do to help us achieve our mission of empowering our learners to solve problems, make connections, and lead the way.
**I forgot to include that pumpkins should be turned in on Oct. 31st. We will not be able to accept them early because we don’t have anywhere to store them.
On Wednesday, SESA’s WIG talk looked a little different than normal. We had our first Big Buddy/Little Buddy Wig talk of the year. Classes paired up and students discussed their lead measures and progress with each other along with sharing their leadership portfolios. All of this work will help them ensure they’re ready to lead their conferences with their parents in February. They all did such an amazing job!
We have been celebrating Red Ribbon Week all week at SESA, but today was pretty EPIC! All students and staff came together to pledge to be drug free. Look at this amazing drone shot from Milton "JJ" Johnson! We will be submitting this photo for the National Red Ribbon Week contest. More info to come on how you can support our school.
Mrs. Kirby caught another great small group circle today in Mrs. English’s third grade class!
Mrs. Kaylan’s second graders led their own reading circle today during small group time. It was amazing to see them in action!
Congrats to Callie! She’s the winner of our school’s Level Up pixel contest during National School Lunch Week!
We’re excited to celebrate Red Ribbon week this week as we make our commitment to be drug free!
