👩🏻🎓 What a week! 👨🏻🎓
It has been a rollercoaster of a week, saying goodbye and good luck, to our Year 2s. It has been an absolute pleasure to have been a part of their school journey and to watch them blossom into the confident, polite, happy children, they are today. 🥰
We have celebrated their final week at Combs with a leavers lunch at The Beehive, an assembly with family and friends and a signing of shirts.
Well done Year 2s. We are sad to see you go but know that you will embrace your new chapters with enthusiasm and a smile. Keep shining like the super stars you are! 🌟

Despite the rain, it was an amazing day, lots of fun was had and we can't thank everyone enough for the support they have given to our children and school!!

We can't thank you all enough!
The weatherman must have known we had booked our sports day this morning, he kept the rain away 🥰.
The children had a fantastic morning, completing all the different activity stations in their teams before competing against each other in full class races.
We had a surprise visit from Walter, our SMILERS mascot, who was so excited to pop in to see the children and present them all with their medals!
What a super morning!🏆🏃♀️🏃🥇
🍕What an exciting morning!🍕
The children in early years are learning all about our big wide world. 🌍
We have spoken about what food we love to eat and which country it comes from. 🇮🇹
Everyone loves pizza so we couldn't let an opportunity of designing and making our own pizzas go a miss!
Well done our team of little chefs, they tasted delicious! 🧑🍳👨🍳
📖✨"You can find magic wherever you look, sit back, relax, all you need is a book!"✨📚
It is so wonderful to see the children enjoying their new outdoor reading area surrounded by happiness, friendship, tranquillity and nature.🥰
The Good Old Days!
KS1 and Reception had a wonderful time at the Silk Museum today. They took a step back in time, spending the day in the life of the Victorians. They explored how they lived, including how they dressed, what they ate, what their homes and toys were like and were even put to work in the mill.
What better way to learn about the past than to be immersed in it! A day we'll never forget!
The children had a fantastic afternoon in forest school yesterday, making the most of this lovely sunshine. ☀️
They worked together in groups to plan what they would create, searched for different natural and man-made resources and created transient art pictures 🥰. They then presented their work to their friends.
What a fantastic afternoon!
Super work team!
What a super surprise we had this afternoon at school.
One of our wonderful parents brought four chicks in to meet the children.🐥
The children enjoyed stroking and feeding the chicks, they were all so gentle and handled them with care.🥰

The children have been busy learning about all the different ways in which we can take care of our environment.
From looking after each other, all animals and respecting nature to collecting rubbish and recycling it and looking at ways to save on water and electricity.
Let’s work together to create a better environment for our future! 🌎
Chop, Slice and Mash!
KS1 have had a 'grate' time learning how to prepare different healthy foods. We talked about how to keep safe and hygienic when preparing foods and why this is important. We even learnt how to use the 'bridge' cutting technique and tested out our culinary creations, yum! 😋

Last week we were ever so lucky to have three beautiful planters made for us. They were built at different heights so all the children can access them comfortably.
Then, with a stroke of luck, a local plant sale was being held!!!
A few of the children went to choose some lovely flowers, bought them and brought them back to school to put in their planters.
They have made them look beautiful 😍
Great work you superstar gardeners!!👩🌾🧑🌾🌿💐🎋
Cocoa bean left for Combs primary school today. He came in on 22nd April after the lovely children rescued him after finding him stuck under a trolley in the daylight.
He had fluke and capillaria. Treatment is completed and off he goes weighing in at 760g.
So lovely that the children knew a hedgehog out in day is a bad sign. Well done Combs primary school 🦔🦔
A few weeks ago, this little friend was found at school and was not very well at all.😢
The children and staff were very worried and sought help to make him better.
We got in touch with the wonderful staff at High Peak Hedgehog Rescue who took our friend in. They christened him 'Cocoa Bean' and nursed him back to good health.
Today, we got the phone call we have been waiting for, Cocoa Bean was ready to come home!!!
He has now returned to a familiar area and has a wonderful home that has been built for him to live in (thanks to our amazing dinner man Tony and his wife).
Cocoa Bean's new home has been put right next to where we found him all those weeks ago.
Well done team Combs for helping our Wildlife!!🥰
A massive thank you to the wonderful team at High Peak Hedgehog Rescue you are superstars!🤩❤️

The children made us so proud, they were really polite, well mannered, and behaved fantastically.

The children thoroughly enjoyed meeting two wonderful veterinary nurses from Knox and Devlin Veterinary Surgery.
They spoke to the children about how to look after their pets and what vets and veterinary nurses do. The children were shown dogs and cats teeth, how to bandage their teddies at the Teddy Bear clinic, how to use a stethoscope to listen to their own heartbeats and their teddies heartbeats and weighed their teddies on the scales.
The children got to ask lots of questions too, they particularly enjoying asking questions about their own cats and dogs.
What a fantastic experience! 🥰
A wheelie good time!
KS1 have loved our DT topic Taxi!
We explored how wheels and axles are often used to transport objects. In groups, we designed and made vehicles using wheels and axles and tested our vehicles out to see if they moved.
We received a special letter from (Claude) a character in our book, asking us to make him a taxi, so that he could explore the capital cities of the UK.
We each designed, painted and assembled our own taxi. We even used saws to cut our axles to size! 🚕
Fantastic work our STEM superstars! 🌟

We have had a great time learning all about Chinese and Lunar New Year. We made Chinese lanterns, painted dragons and had a go at using chopsticks to sample some Chinese food. As it is the year of the dragon, we made our own dragons and masks and continued this into our Forest School afternoon, playing instruments and doing a dragon dance around the field. What a busy but wonderful day!
Yummy Pancakes!!
The children have had a scrumptious afternoon of making pancakes.
They designed their perfect pancake, worked as a team to make the batter and then finished off by adding a delicious topping and eating them all up - yum yum!!
Super work our little chefs!🧑🍳👨🍳
We hope every one else has enjoyed their pancakes today too! 🫶
Today is Safer Internet Day.
The theme this year is ‘Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online’.
The children have been superstars at listening and learning about the importance of being safe online.
The children in EYFS have been busy listening to Buddy the Dog's internet safety story and learning to sing Buddy's "Use Your Tablet Safely" song.
The KS1 children have helped Smartie the Penguin decide what to do when being safe online, and have practiced the chant "before you tap and click, remember to stop and think and tell someone".
