Netiquette - good use of Social Media

Social Media Netiquette has to do with the good behavior you show while on the Social Media Platform

Operating as usual

With Netiquette there are some simple rules and principles to follow. i will be listing a few of these principles.
1. It’s all about respect
Just like in face to face communication, courtesy goes a long way in making everyone’s internet experience pleasant and enjoyable. Always think of how you would want to be treated. That’s probably how others want to be treated too.

2. Remember emotion
Subtle emotions and meanings do not transmit very well in an email. However, do not use all caps as it designates shouting, or overuse smileys and emoticons as these may make you look unprofessional. Constructing your sentences carefully and checking (and re-checking, several times) what you write before hitting send is always a good policy.

3. Help the newbies
Good netiquette dictates that you share your knowledge to new users by answering some of their questions. Remember, you too were a newbie once.

4. Make yourself look good online
Spelling and grammar count! Always write thoughtful posts and keep your language clean.

5. Remember that your digital footprint can be tracked
Even if you write under an alias or a made-up handle, the account can easily be traced back to you. So don’t think that you won’t be found out if you write nasty remarks on your boss’s blog, or that your posts flaming somebody in a forum can be easily remedied by deleting them. Your activities online leave data that may be stored and can be retrieved. Always be a decent and responsible netizen.(Online/Net citizen)

"Netiquette" refers to Internet etiquette. This simply means the use of good manners in online communication such as e-mail, forums, blogs, and social networking sites to name a few. It is important to use netiquette because communication online is non-verbal. Most often online communication consists of reading something someone else has typed. This type of communication does not allow each person to see facial expressions, body language, or hear intonation. Because of this, messages can often be misinterpreted. By following netiquette, online communication becomes clearer. Especially in business and career related online communications netiquette should be used to ensure that correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation are put in place to project professionalism. Netiquette also includes the use of emoticons (such as :) :( ;) and others) to explain an emotion. In e-mail, netiquette means not flooding someone's inbox with forwarded messages or spam mail. Following netiquette will help you to maintain and establish positive online relationships as well as develop a positive online reputation.
